Kath & Schwebach Start Title Defenses Well

By: Todd Narveson

Spring Valley, MN (May 11)

Beautiful weather graced the Deer Creek Speedway for the 2024 season opener. Race starved fans and 128-cars turned out for the program sponsored by Weber Auto Parts. Kadden Kath and Nick Schwebach got off to a good start trying to defend their track titles with wins.

The first feature race of the night was the Meadow Greens Golf Course USRA Hobby Stocks. Defending track champion Nick Schwebach started on the pole and took the early lead while Carter Jonsgaard gave an early challenge.

Dustin Gulbrandson took second on lap six right before the races lone caution flag flew. When the race resumed, Gulbrandson would try everything he could to pass Schwebach, but just could not get by.

On the final lap Gulbrandson dove low in turn three, but didn’t have enough room to execute a slide job. Schwebach held on for the win with Gulbrandson second. Caden Helle came from seventh to finish third while Dustin Doughty raced from 10th to fourth and Luke Schluetter was fifth.

Thirty-nine Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods ran five heat races and two b-mains to determine the 26-car field for the 18-lap race.

Ben Moudry took off from row one to lead the field. Trevor Fecht ran second until Dustin Kruse slipped by. Kruse then moved in to challenge Moudry for the lead.

Kruse snagged the lead on lap 11 and lead the final seven laps for the win in a caution free race. Hunter Kennedy passed Moudry for second on lap 15 and finished there. Moudry was third with Fecht fourth and Spencer Stock fifth.

Three Kath brothers sat in the first two rows for the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Kobie Kath lead lap one and defending track champion Kadden Kath lead lap two.

Kadden Kath would lead and Nick Koehler got to second before the races lone yellow came out on lap 13 for debris. Kadden Kath led the rest of the way for the win with Koehler second. Kullen Kath and Kobie Kath ran third and fourth with Christopher Deno fifth.

Nineteen cars took the green flag for the Rochester Chevrolet-Cadillac USRA Stock Car feature. Brandon Hare took advantage of his front row starting spot and led all 20-laps for the win.

Blake Adams ran second most of the race while Brayden Gjere raced back to third after he fell back to eighth early in the race. Jake James had a good run in fourth and Shawn Peter finished in fifth.

A field of 31-NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds ran four heats and two b-mains to get to their 26-car field for the 25-lap feature.

Jake Timm jumped off the outside of row one and took the lead. Josh Angst gave chase while Jim Chisholm ran third. Timm opened up the lead until he encountered the back of the field.

Chisholm passed Angst for second on lap 16 and tried to reel in Timm through the lapped traffic. Timm led the field to the checkered flag with Chisholm a little over a second behind in second. Angst was third with Jacob Bleess fourth and Brandon Davis in fifth.
