Motl & Dais Snare Career Firsts At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (August 12)

By: Todd Narveson

The weather was spectacular and so was the car count this week at Deer Creek Speedway. An outstanding 154-cars signed in this week and they produced two career first wins along with four and five wide racing.

It was Veterans Night and all military veterans and a guest received free admission courtesy of Rochester Chevrolet-Cadillac. Ruehlow Farms and Rossi Auto Body also supported the event.

There were t-shirt sales, 50/50 draw, silent and live auctions along with the push challenge for the winning drivers in victory lane.

Rochester Chevrolet-Cadillac also added $1000 to each division’s features. That was awarded to drivers that finished in the top 10.

The Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods had 42-racers sign in so they were once again split into two feature races after their qualifying heat races.

Colby Mann led lap one of the first 18-lap feature. Fellow front row starter Gage Motl took over the lead on lap two. Joe Chisholm worked to second on lap five, but Motl had pulled away.

A yellow on lap eight erased Motl’s lead. It did not deter Motl however as he once again opened up the lead. Chisholm had Dylan Goettl to deal with when they raced for second. Once again, another caution on lap 13 took Motl’s edge away.

Motl remained poised and led the final five laps to nab his first career win. Goettl got by Chisholm for second while Brandon Hare and Taylor Skauge were in the top five.

The second feature had a pretty similar storyline as the first race. Pole sitter Harley Dais took off an opened up a large lead. Just like the first race, a yellow erased Dais’ big lead.

Just like Motl in the race prior, Dais took off on the restart. Track point leader Hunter Kennedy and Cole Lonergan tried to keep pace but Dais was just too strong.

Dais led the rest of the way and he too scored his first career win. Kennedy finished in second with Lonergan third. Spencer Stock finished fourth and Scott Demmer was fifth.

Samual Fitterer led lap one in the Meadow Greens Golf Course USRA Hobby Stock feature. Luke Schluetter took over on lap two and would lead the rest of the race for his third win of the season.

Nick Schwebach came from 10th to finish in second. Chris Hovden finished in third with Scott Spilde fourth. Gavin Bartel finished fifth but was disqualified in post-race tech. That moved Brian Lund up to fifth.

A large field of 30-Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were on hand this week. Twenty-four of them started the 18-lap feature.

Jayme Hiller jumped off row one and led the first four laps. Brandon Jensen quickly moved from fifth to second and then took the lead on lap five. The caution came soon after and tightened the pack up.

Jensen took off on the start, but Jason Vandekamp was the car on the move. Vandekamp started ninth and drove to second on lap seven. Hiller and Jacob Toepper had a great side-by-side battle for third.

Jensen led the field to the checkered flag for his sixth win of the year. Vandekamp was second and Toepper edged Hiller for third. Mitch Weiss in his first appearance of the season finished in fifth.

Jacob Bleess led the Rochester Chevrolet USRA Stock Cars on lap one before the caution came out. On the restart they were three wide for second and Derek Green took the spot. Another yellow on lap six slowed the pace.

Bleess still led but Green and Kyle Falck battle for second. Another yellow on lap eight set up a three wide tussle for the lead on the restart. Green took the lead but all eyes were on Josh Zieman.

Zieman started 11th and stormed to second when he used the low groove. Another yellow on lap 11 and another on lap 13 made it five yellows and three laps were dropped.

The restart was spectacular when Zieman threw a slide job on Green to take the lead. Green dove low in turn four and led lap 14. Green held off Zieman for his 20th win of the year. Falck finished third with Bleess and 13th starter Travis Shipman fifth.

Twenty-six NAPA Suto Care Centers USRA Modifieds took the green flag for their 25-lap main event. Right off the bat Josh Angst, Kylie Kath and Nick Murgic were three wide for the lead.

Angst took the lead with Kath second while Brandon Davis moved past Murgic for third. Davis then moved in on Kath and took second on lap five. Kath then was challenged by Rodney Sanders.

Angst had a good-sized lead, but Davis cut into the advantage and was close on lap14 when the leaders caught the back of the field. They sliced through the lapped traffic in some tight spots.

Davis slipped past on lap 17 and led the rest of the way for the win. Angst was second while Sanders got to third. Jake O’Neil was fourth after he started in 12th and Kath was fifth.
