Racers and Fans Honor Caleb Korpi at Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (June 3)

By: Todd Narveson

The race program at Deer Creek Speedway was dedicated to the memory of USRA B-Mod Caleb Korpi who passed away at the track last Saturday.

Numerous fans and racers put extra money into the USRA B-Mod purse during the night. Also, drivers same into the grandstand and did a helmet pass during intermission to raise money for the Korpi family.

This week’s event was supported by Grow Source, Weber Auto Parts and Bob The Bugman. Another large field of 136-cars signed in for racing action.

Jacob Toepper led the initial laps of the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Defending track champion Kadden Kath got past Isaac Clark for second before a yellow came out on lap nine.

Clark shot to the lead on the start and held the advantage until lap 14. Kath took over and led the rest of the way for the win. Toepper rebounded for second while Billy Steinberg came from 10th to finish in third. Tommy Myer and Christopher Deno were in the top five.

The Meadow Greens Golf Course USRA Hobby Stocks had 27-entries for night number two. Luke Schluetter took off from row one and led the entire 18-lap race.

The was some good action behind him and Chris Hovden would come home second with Nick Schwebach third. Zac Smith raced from ninth to fourth and Bernie Adams was fifth.

A huge field of 44 Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods were again split into two features. The first feature had a great battle for the lead with Trevor Fecht and Cole Bennerotte.

Fecht led all 18-laps for the win, but faced heavy pressure from Bennerotte the entire way. Michael Johnson finished in third with Cole Lonergan and Taylor Ausrud in the top five.

Feature number two was a great race when Noah Grinstead and Hunter Kennedy battled for the lead. After a restart on lap seven, Kennedy threw a slide job on Grinstead for the lead. Grinstead dove low and regained the lead to end lap seven.

Grinstead held off a late race challenge from Harley Dais to pick up the win. Kennedy finished third while Zach Brom charged from 12th to fourth and Brandon Hare was fifth.

Levi Schott led the first two laps of the Rochester Chevrolet Stock Car feature. Kyle Falck drove up and took the lead on lap three. Brayden Gjere worked to third and would challenge Schott for second.

Gjere got to second and then closed in on Falck. Gjere pulled a slide job for the lead on lap 14, but Falck zipped right back by. Gjere once again took the lead back on lap 15.

Gjere led the final five laps for the win with Falck in second. Kory Adams came from ninth to finish in third while Schott was fourth and Jason Newkirk finished fifth.

Twenty-three drivers took the green flag for the Napa Auto Care Centers USRA Modified feature. Lucas Schott started outside of row one and took off. Schott opened up a large lead early on.

Schott would lead all 25-laps for the win and Joe Chisholm finished in second. Brandon Davis started 19th and charged all the way up to third. Ryan Wetzstein nipped Kylie Kath for fourth on the final lap.
