Deer Creek Speedway

Kennedy wins a B-Mod Thriller At Deer Creek

(May 14, 2022)

By: Todd Narveson

It was a picture-perfect night for the 2022 season opener at Deer Creek Speedway. A great field of 115-cars signed in and a good crowd came out to see some racing. Rent-N-Save along with Randy & Sandy Norby sponsored this week’s program.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds got the feature races started with their 18-lap main event. Nick Koehler took advantage of his front row starting spot to dominate from start to finish.

A couple of cautions would slow the race, but it did not deter Koehler one bit. Koehler led all 18-laps to pick up the win. Kadden Kath worked his way up from fifth to take second while Zach Benson finished third. Three-time defending track champion Mitch Weiss was fourth and Dano Ostrander was fifth.

Bernie Adams jumped to the early lead in the Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stock feature. Adams was challenged early on by Nick Schwebach while Braden Brauer came from eighth to third. Brauer stormed to the lead on lap four and shortly after Schwebach spun and collected Ross Spitzer.

Once Brauer got into the lead, he took off and led the rest of the way for his 10th career Deer Creek win. Andrew Hanson raced from seventh to second with Kolton Brauer in third. Kory Adams and Bernie Adams finished out the top five.

A huge field of 40-Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods signed in for the opener. Five heat races and two B-Mains whittled that field down to 26-cars for the 18-lap feature race.

Trevor Fecht jumped off of row one to take the lead from the start. There was some good racing going on behind him for second. Brandon Hare and Hunter Kennedy fought for that spot while Jackson Hale made it a three-car battle. Kennedy would clear Hare and then tried to close the gap on Fecht.

The laps wound down and Kennedy slowly but surely closed the gap on Fecht. On the final lap, Kennedy was right on Fecht when they came out of turn two. Kennedy dove to the low side of turn three and slid up in front of Fecht to steal the lead and the win in the final corner. Hale would finish third with hare fourth and Alex Schubbe was fifth.

The Medieval Chassis USRA Stock Cars are the new division at the speedway that took the place of the WISSOTA Super Stocks. A decent field of 15 were on hand for the opener.

At the drop of the green the front runners were three-wide for the lead. Kyle Falck came from row two and took the lead. Travis Shipman moved to second on lap three and tried to keep pace with Falck. Shipman closed the gap in the final laps of the race but came up short in attempt to make a pass on the final lap.

The racing behind the top two was intense for awhile with six cars going at it for third. Blake Adams would eventually take that spot with Jesse Brown in fourth and Cole Denner would wind up in fifth.

The Napa Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds concluded the program with their 25-car, 25-lap feature. Modified rookie Parker Hale zoomed to the early lead while being chased by the defending track champion Cory Crapser. Crapser snuck past Hale for the lead on lap nine and quickly extended hos lead.

Crapser led the rest of the way to pick up the win. Hales finished a very strong second and Ryan Wetzstein finished third after a good race with Jason Cummins and Joe Horgdal who finished fourth and fifth.
