2021 DEER CREEK OPENER PROVIDES SOME LIFELONG MEMORIES.

Spring Valley, MN

May 1st, 2021: Eric Thronson

125 racecars converged on Deer Creek for the season opener, with many drivers in their cars for the first time and others looking to continue their success so far.

Neil Eckhart and Spencer Stock lead the superstocks to the green flag on a smooth fast track. Eckhart and Stock jumped out to early side by side battle for the lead. But lurking behind them, were Jeff Brauer, Brandon Duellman and Dan Nissalke. With three to go Nissalke who started 10th, had found his way around Eckhart, for second and Duellman was already up to fourth from his 8th place starting spot. But as the white flag flew, Spencer Stock was able to drive that hotrod on any line needed to complete the dream of winning his very first Feature as he took the checkered flag and put the sticker on the car. Joy and emotions were high in Tralo victory lane, as Spencer Stock etched his name into the history books as a FEATURE WINNER, at Deer Creek Speedway!

Wissota Midwest Mods:  The class had 23 cars at the Creek and when they were under green flag racing everyone was very fast & competitive as we’ve come to expect.  The A main was plagued with cautions though. With Dan Wheeler  and Trevis Underdahl on the front row to start the A main and Dylan Goettl and Jake Smith in row 2, expectations were high. Most of the feature was two and three wide racing. In the end Dylan Goettl swept to win the feature, with Trevis Underdahl on his back door right to the end. Wheeler was competing for the lead before he had to pull into the infield. Ryan Goergen, however, had a run from 8th to finish 3rd behind Trevis. Mitch Weiss also charged from 9th to finish 4th with Jake Smith rounding out the top five after winning his heat.

USRA B Mods:  45 hotrods converged on Deer Creek, which blessed the fans with two B-Features and great racing all night. The A Feature did have a “caution fiestaâ€?, however, the charge from the back of the field by the B Feature qualifiers was fun to watch. Taylor Skauge and Brandon Maitland started on Row 1 and it was only a couple laps until Maitland was out in front where he stayed until late in the Race until Jim Chisholm made is final move, after racing side by side during the waning laps, Chisholm chose his spot to pass and took the win in dramatic Deer Creek/Jim Chisholm fashion for his sweep for the night. Brandon Maitland finish 2nd, Parker Hale was 3rd, Taylor Ausrud 4th and Zach Elward came from 12th to 5th  by running both High and low to make his way through the field in an impressive race overall.

USRA  A Mods:  24  A Mods made for a great A feature. However, Heat #3 provided quite a, “take your breath awayâ€? moment when Josh Angst was crossed up due to contact coming out of turn two on the first lap and barrel rolled his Mod 5 ½ times down the back straight. Fortunately, Josh stepped out of the car and walked away. After everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief, racing resumed, and Dustin Sorensen went on to the first win in his sweep of the night.

The high side was fast for the feature, Jacob Bleess and Cory Crapser ran all lines as they battled for the lead during the first few laps and then Lance Mari found his way around them both. But after several cautions brought the field together, Dustin Sorensen came flying around the high side and made the pass around Mari, with Brandon Davis and Ryan Wetzstein closely behind. Mari seemed to struggle in the final laps and dropped to 5th. When the checkered flag flew, Dustin Sorensen from 12th, had his second feature of the weekend and Bleess finished a strong second, Brandon Davis finished 3rd from 10th and Lance Mari finished 5th.
