Davis Scores 62nd Career Win At Deer Creek

After being rained out the week prior, the Deer Creek Speedway roared back to life under prefect weather conditions. This week was the Salute To Veterans Night with money being raised to support the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.)

Rochester Chevrolet, Evans Printing, Ruehlow Farms and Marcus Mandt of Farm Bureau Financial Services sponsored the program. Marcus Mandt provided free admission for the veterans along with one guest for each that entered.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the feature races this week. Pole sitter Don Schaefer took the early lead while Christopher Deno and Spencer Stock gave chase. Mitch Weiss was on the fly from row four and was fourth after one lap.

Weiss drove past Stock for third on lap three and then chased down Deno. Weiss made the pass for second on lap four and then looked to close in on Schaefer. Schaefer led by eight car lengths at that point, but Weiss rapidly reeled him in.

Meanwhile Dylan Goettl had cracked the top five on lap six and moved up fast. Back up front, Schaefer was challenged by Weiss for the lead.  Weiss used the high groove and took the lead in turn four on lap nine. Weiss would quickly open up a large advantage.

Weiss led the rest of the way four his fourth win of the year. Weiss then did 40 push- ups worth $26 a piece for the D.A.V. Goettl continued to move forward and made a late race pass of Schaefer to take second with Schaefer third. Stock would finish in fourth and Deno was fifth.

Eighteen Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks took the green flag for their 18-lap main event. A melee on the start triggered a complete restart. Cole Richards passed pole sitter Fred Prudoehl to take the lead with Kory Adams close. Jason Newkirk moved to third and Kevin Vogt was fourth.

On lap two, Prudoehl made contact with the turn two wall. Prudoehl got his car off the wall, but several cars had no place to go. Krysta Doughy got tagged and sent sideways on the backstretch. Doughty’s car dug in and went on a wild set of side over side and end over end rolls. Her car came to rest on its wheels and fortunately Doughty was uninjured in the hard crash.

On the restart, Adams darted to the lead and brought Dustin Doughty along to second. Cole Richards was third while Danny Richards raced Newkirk for fourth, Doughty and Adams were side-by-side on lap five while the Ricchard’s were doing the same for third.

Doughty took the lead on lap six and Cole Richards moved back to second with Adams and Danny Richards racing close for third. Danny Richards worked past Adams and then got by Cole for second. The top five were tight at this point when a yellow came out for Kevin Vogt’s spin on lap nine.

A couple of more yellow flags would slow the race, but not Doughty. Doughty would lead the rest of the race for his second win of the season. Doughty was up to the Push-Up Challenge and did 25 of them in victory lane. Even after rolling her car over earlier in the race, Krysta joined here husband and ripped off some push-ups of her own.

Cole Richards finished a strong second with Danny Richards in third. Adams would finish in the fourth position and Braden Brauer rounds out the top five at the checkered flag.

A large field of 35 National Fleet Graphics USRA B-Mods were on hand this week. They ran four heat races and two B-features to whittle that field down to the 24-car field for their 18-lap feature race.

Dustin Kruse used his front row starting spot to take the early lead. Brandon Maitland and Jim Chisholm were close behind to start things off. I did not long for Maitland to make his move, On lap two Maitland drove past Kruse for the lead and opened up the gap up front.

Maitland pulled away while Chisholm battled with Kruse for second and took the spot on lap six. Maitland entered lapped traffic on lap 12 and Chisholm tried to catch him. Maitland was able to glide through the traffic and opened up the lead to claim his second win of the year in the caution free race.

Maitland did 29 push-ups in victory lane to raise $754 for the D.A.V. Chisholm finished in second with Kruse in third. Andrew Bleess would take the fourth spot and Garitt Wytaske rounded out the top five.

Schatney Sanders and Neil Eckhart came from row two and battled for the lead early on in the Crenlo WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Sanders edged out front while Braden Brauer and Ryan Wiome were behind Eckhart and raced for third. Eckhart would challenge for the lead on laps four and five, but Sanders held him off.

While Sanders enjoyed a big lead, Dan Nissalke was on the move and challenged Wiome for third. They closed in on Eckhart to challenge for second. Wiome used the high groove and drove to second on lap 11. Nissalke got to third and a caution came out on lap 11 when Kevin Hager spun.

Nissalke darted past Wiome for second on the start and then went after Sanders. Sanders held Nissalke at bay for a few laps, but Nissalke made the pass on lap 17 and cruised to his second win of the year.

Nissalke then ripped off 45 push-ups that was worth $1170 for the charity. Sanders would hold on to a second place finish, Jeff Brauer made a late race charge from sixth and beat Wiome to the line to finish third. Braden Brauer would finish out the top five.

A five-car pile-up just after the drop of the green flag slowed the start in the Napa Auto Care Centers USRA Modified feature. Brandon Davis started on the pole for the 25-lap race and that was trouble for the rest of the 21-cars that started the race.

Davis quickly opened up the lead on Jacob Bleess and Jake O’Neil. Davis checked out and left Bleess and O’Neil to battle it out for second. O’Neil made several attempts to pass Bleess and finally got by on lap five. At this point Davis was long gone up front, but O’Neil would attempt to reel him in.

Davis lead, but O’Neil closed the gap to get close on lap 16. The leaders started to work through lapped traffic and eventually that allowed Davis to open up the gap on O’Neil once again. Davis extended the lead late in the race and scored his third win. It was also his 62nd career win which puts him on top of the all-time feature winner list at the speedway.

Davis then matched his car number and performed 50 push-ups that raised $1300 for the Disabled American Vetreans. O’Neil finished in second while Bleess held third. Lucas Schott finished in fourth and Josh Angst was fifth.
