New Winners Take Top Honors At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (July 18)

By: Todd Narveson

It was a hot and sultry evening at Deer Creek Speedway with temperatures in the 90’s and very high humidity levels. This week’s program was presented by Express Pressure Washers, Randy & Sandy Norby along with Schott Distributing.

The USRA B-Mods were first on the speedway for their 18-lap main event. A pair of former track champions Brandon Hare and Kadden Kath led the 24-car field to the green flag. Hare would jump to the lead while Kath and Troy Hovey gave chase. Andrew Bleess worked to fourth but a three car pileup on lap three bought out the yellow flag.

Kath tried a slide job on the start, but Hare drove past. Then Hovey challenge Kath for second, but Kath was able to hold Hovey in check. Bleess moved up to challenge Hovey for third while Dan Hovden cracked the top five after he started 11th. Bleess zipped past Hovey to third as Jim Chisholm challenged Hovden for fifth.

On lap nine both Hovden and Chisholm glided past Hovey and then set after Bleess. Hare continued to lead, but Kath hung right with him. Kath executed a slide job for the lead in turn two on lap 13. From there Kath would extend his lead and pull away.

Kath led the rest of the way for his first win of the season. Hare finished in second and Chisholm passed Bleess for third late in the race. Bleess would hang on for the fourth spot and Hovden finished in fifth.

Bernie Adams took the lead from the drop of the green flag for the WISSOTA Street Stock feature. Braden Brauer, A.J. Zvorak and Krysta Doughty were three wide for second. Brauer moved to second before a caution flag came out on lap three. Another caution on the restart slowed things down.

On the start, Brauer drove up alongside of Adams for the lead with Zvorak right there. Brauer led lap three but Adams rallied back to lead lap four. Kyle Howland worked the low groove and joined the lead trio. Howland, Brauer and Zvorak raced three wide for second and then went four wide for the lead with Adams on lap five.

Once again the leaders went four wide for the lead in turn four and Howland scooted out front. Howland pulled away a bit, but the race for second was intense. Danny Richards joined the battle and at times was three wide with Brauer and Zvorak.

Howland drove to the checkered flag for his first Deer Creek win. Zvorak would finish in second and Richards was third. Brauer finished in the fourth position and Adams finished fifth.

Spencer Stock got the jump on Jacob Toepper for the lead in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Mitch Weiss got a tremendous start when he drove from seventh to second on the first lap. Behind them Ryan Goergen, Dylan Goettl, Kylie Kath and Nate Erickson raced for third. Erickson got into Goergen to cause a yellow and Erickson was sent to the back.

The green flag did not last a lap before the caution returned. When the race resumed, Weiss applied heavy pressure on Stock as he tried to take the lead, Jason Vandekamp was on the move after he started eighth and challenged Kath for third. Another yellow would slow the race on lap five.

Vandekamp raced past Kath for third on the start and then tried to take second from Weiss. Stock hung on to the lead, but Weiss and Vandekmap were right behind him. Vandekamp zipped to the lead on lap seven, Weiss took second on lap nine, but Stock took it away on lap 11.

Unfortunately for Stock, mechanical issues ended his run in lap 13 and he glided to the infield. From there Vandekamp was in control for his first win at the speedway this year. Weiss was second with Kath in third, Goettl in fourth and Liz Toepper came from 18th to fifth.

Neil Eckhart took the early lead in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Kevin Hager and Jeff Brauer raced for second and Brauer took the spot on lap two. Brauer challenged Eckhart for the lead when the yellow flag came out on lap 3. Kevin Hager came alive on the start and passed Brauer for second and then Eckhart for the lead on lap four.

Ryan Wiome moved up to race with Brauer for third. Wiome passed Brauer and then Eckhart for second. Hager led but Wiome mounted a challenge on lap eight, Brandon Duelleman who got tripped up in tech inspection after his heat charged from 14th to fifth.

Wiome, Hager and Brauer were close up front while Dylan Kromschroeder was fourth. Brauer took second but a caution came out on lap 11. Wiome, Brauer and Kromschroeder were close. Kromschroeder took the lead on lap 14 but the top three were close.

Wiome and Brauer got together on lap 17 with Brauer being sent to the tail of the field. Kromschroeder led the rest of the way for his second win of the year. Ryan Kostreba made a late run to finish second with Wiome fourth. Duellman was fifth and Eckhart rounded out the top five.

USMTS stars Rodney Sanders and Zack Vanderbeek led the 24-car USRA Modifed feature to the green flag. Vanderbeek jumped out front and Dustin Sorensen drove past Sanders to second. Jacob Bleess was also in the mix and took third briefly before Sander got back by.

Jayden Larson brushed the wall on lap 5 and slowed to bring out the yellow flag. Another caution just after the restart kept the leaders in tight formation. Bleess, Sorensen and Sanders then went three wide for second as Brandon Davis cracked the top five.

Sanders got past Sorensen for second and then closed in on Vanderbeek. Sorensen and Bleess continued their hot battle for third place. Sanders drew even with Vanderbeek for the lead on lap 14, but Vanderbeek held him off. Sanders then pulled a slide job on lap 16 to steal the lead.

Vanderbeek remained close for a few laps, but Sanders extended his lead in the final laps. Sanders scored the win with Vanderbeek in second while Brandon Davis made some late moves to finish third. Jason Cummins raced from 11th to take fourth and Sorensen was fifth.
