Hare Ends Chisholm’s Win Streak At The Creek

Hot and sultry conditions greeted race fans and racers this week at Deer Creek Speedway. Temperatures in the low 90’s and high humidity made for uncomfortable conditions, but the reward was an exciting night of racing.

Everyone was treated to a fireworks show presented by Bill & Brenda Weber, Randy & Sandy Norby and Flashing Thunder Fireworks. Additional support for the show came from the Rochester Eagles Club and Kelly Construction.

Twenty-one WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took the green flag for their 18-lap feature event. Pole sitter Spencer Stock took the early lead and was chased by Christopher Deno and Kylie Kath. Kath drove by Deno and then challenged for the lead.

Kath took the lead on lap three, while Mitch Weiss had moved to fourth. Weiss battled Deno for third when Stock had problems and came to a stop to bring out the yellow on lap 6. On the restart Weiss moved past Deno for second and then attempted to chase down Kath.

A yellow on lap nine stacked the field up but Kath held on to the lead. Deno had his hands full when Trevis Underdahl and Travis Anderson went three wide with him for third with Anderson taking the spot on lap 10. Two yellows at the end of the race set up a two lap dash.

Kath held on for his first win of the season with Weiss second. Anderson would finish in third while Trevis Underdahl ended up in fourth. Kobie Kath scored another top five and finished in the fifth spot.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks have provided great races so far this season and this week was no exception. The drama even extended well after the checkered flag flew. The Rochester Eagles Club added a $100 bonus to the top three finishers and an extra $50 for fourth through seventh.

Right off the bat Nick Scwebach, A.J. Zvorak, Bernie Adams and Danny Richards drove four wide for the lead. Richards shot out front and quickly pulled away from the pack. Behind him there was a torrid battle for third with Bernie Adams, Schwebach and Cody Kummer.

Kummer slipped to third on lap eight just before a three car pileup that involved Schwebach, Kory Adams amd Braden Brauer brought out the yellow. On the restart, Kummer moved to second and Zach Elward was fourth after he started 14th. Elward moved to third and he along with Kummer tried to chase down Richards. A yellow on lap 11 set up a wild restart.

Elward threw a slide job on Kummer and Richards to steal the lead. Richards dove low and reclaimed the lead, but a caution negated all of that. The green came back out and Elward executed another slider for the lead. Kummer did the same thing for second and barely had enough room to clear and Richards gave him a shot to the rear bumper.

Elward would take the checkered flag first, but was disqualified in post-race tech inspection for front suspension issues. That handed the win to Kummer with Richards in second. Zvorak finished in third with Kory Adams fourth and Hunter Anderson fifth.

If that wasn’t enough drama, the USRA B-Mods provided their own. Noah Grinstead took the lead from row one with Joe Chisholm and Brandon Hare close behind. Grinstead opened up a bit of a lead but Hare was cranked up on the cushion to take second from Chisholm on lap six.

Hare reeled in Grinstead and caught him on lap eight. Meanwhile Jim Chisholm who had started ninth and rode a six race win streak into the night was up to fourth. Hare moved alongside Grinstead on lap nine and took the lead away on lap 10. A caution and the end of lap 10 tightened up the field.

Hare continued to use the high groove and took off. Jim Chisholm slipped past his younger brother Joe for third and then took second from Grinstead on lap 12. Joe Chisholm erupted in smoke and slowed to bring out the yellow flag.

On the restart Kadden Kath was strong and got by Grinstead for third. The laps would down and Chisholm got close to Hare for the lead. Chisholm ran high and low as he tried to make the pass. Chisholm tried a slider with two laps to go but didn’t have room to pull it off.

The white flag flew and Hare held the high line with Chisholm on his bumper out of turn two. Chisholm dove low in turn three and again tried the slider. This time he slid up in front of Hare in turn four to take the lead. But with the checkered flag waving, Hare cut low and rallied back and edged Chisholm at the line for the win.

Hare also received a $200 put up by an anonymous fan to any driver that could end Chisholm’s win streak. Chisholm ended up second with Kath third, Grinstead fourth and Scott Demmer fifth.

Brandon Duellman led the entire 20-laps of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature for his first win of the year. Schatney Sanders and Kevin Hager went at it for second early on. Ryan Wiome entered the picture and dispatched Hager and then was on Sanders,

Jeff Brauer also got by Hager to fourth and Dylan Kromschroefer entered the top five and then passed Brauer and Wiome to third. Duellman was gone up front until the yellow flag came out on lap 15. The green returned and Duellman, Sanders and Kromschoeder were three wide for the lead briefly.

Another caution came out when Wiome and Eckhart tangled in turn two. Kromschroeder slipped to second on lap 15 and then set after Duellman. A scary incident on lap 17 started with Bill Clemens spun in turn two.

Behind that Bruce Lutz hit the wall and his car climbed up the wall, went on its side and rode the top of the wall. Lutz’s car came back down on all four tires and he came to rest on the backstretch. Lutz was shaken up but otherwise uninjured in his wild ride.

Duellman held off the late race advances from Kromschroeder for the win. Jeff Brauer charged back from a trip to the tail of the pack early in the race to finish third. Sanders ended up in fourth and Braden Brauer finished fifth.

The USRA Modifieds raced for $2000 to win this week thanks to a secret donor. Brad Waits and Jacob Bleess brought the field to the green flag for the 25-lap race. Bleess slid in front of Waits in turn two to take the lead. Waits dove low and made slight contact with Bleess.

Waits slowed with a flat tire and the caution flag came out. Bleess took off while Dustin Sorensen and Brandon Davis went at it for second while Cory Crapser was fourth. Davis moved to second on lap five and Jason Cummins moved into the top five.

Bleess and Davis pulled away from Sorensen but a yellow on lap five slowed the pace. Another quick yellow slowed things down, but it heated up on the restart. Davis used the low groove to challenged Bleess for the lead. Davis used a slide job on lap eight to take the lead.

Sorensen and Bleess exchanged sliders for second on laps nine and ten. Crapser then moved by Sorensen for third before Sorensen dropped off the pace to the infield on lap 14. Davis then worked into lapped traffic and opened up the lead.

Davis took the win for his 60th career win at the speedway. Bleess finished in second with Crapser third. Josh Angst raced from ninth to fourth and Lucas Schott came from 12th to fifth at the checkered flag.
