Chisholm Continues To Be Hot At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (June 13)

By: Todd Narveson

The weather was perfect for the second night of racing at Deer Creek Speedway. Another strong field of 100-cars showed up to battle it out for top honors. This week’s program was presented by Podein’s Power Equipment along with Randy & Sandy Norby.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were on the speedway first for their 18-lap race. Jacob Toepper and Dan Wheeler led the 18-car field to the green flag. Wheeler took the lead while Dylan Goettl moved to second with Kylie Kath close.

Kath took second on lap two and then vaulted past Wheeler for the lead on lap three. Zach Benson charged from sixth and raced with Wheeler for second. Benson took over second on the seventh circuit and then set after Kath.

Benson took the lead on the ninth lap and shortly after Kath’s machine erupted in smoke to trigger a caution when he came to a stop. On the restart, Goettl drove back to second and Jason Vandekamp who used the high groove was up to third.

Vandekamp moved to second on lap 11 and then reeled in Benson. Vandekamp was right with the leader with a couple of laps left. Benson moved to the top of the speedway in an attempt to thwart Vandekamp’s challenge.

It worked as Benson hung on for the win with Vandekamp a close second. Goettl finished in third while Kobie Kath scored another top five in fourth and Mitch Weiss would close out the top five.

The WISSOTA Street Stock feature got off to a rough start when row one starter Brent Holland spun in turn two. Zach Elward made contact and several others to evasive action to avoid the melee. Elward was able to continue missing some body panels on the right side.

Kory Adams darted to the lead with Danny Richards and Russell Kostreba in a race for second. Richards took second by Kostreba drove back by all on lap three. Braden Brauer and Nick Schwebach were side-by-side for fourth and Zach Elward was directly behind them.

Adams had opened up a sizeable lead, but that was erased with a lap six caution flag. Adams had his hands full with Kostreba and Richards on the restart, Kostreba took the lead before another yellow on lap seven reset things once again.

The green flag came out with Kostreba out front. Elward, Richards and Adams were three abreast for second. The top four were tight and Adams rode the high line to take the lead again on lap 11. Adams then brushed the wall in turn two and Kostreba took the lead. That pass was negated when the caution flew before the lap was completed.

Adams took control from there to take the win. Elward made a late race pass to take second with Kostreba in third. Richards finished in the fourth spot and Brauer would be fifth.

Trevor Fecht led lap one of the USRA B-Mod feature, but Garitt Wytaske took the lead to end lap two. Brandon Hare and Dustin Kruse were door-to-door for third. Fecht regained the lead on lap four while Hare took third. Hare then took second on lap six and Jim Chisholm was fourth.

Chisholm passed Wytaske for third on lap nine and Ben Moudry was on the fly to fourth after he started in tenth. Fecht continued to lead but Chisholm was now in second and closed in on the leader. Moudry took third and at that point was the fastest car on the track.

Fecht was challenged by Chisholm while Moudry reeled in the lead duo. Chisholm snagged the lead on lap 12 as Fecht was now challenged by Moudry for second. A caution came out on lap 14 to tighten up the pack.

Moudry moved to second on the start and brought Kruse along with him to third. Chisholm was in control until a caution came out with one lap to go. It took three attempts to get the green, white, checkered finish completed.

When the checkered flag flew Chisholm scored his second win in a row and sixth overall this season. Moudry finished second while Kruse was in third. Fecht came home fourth with Hare in the fifth spot.

Ryan Wiome took the lead from row one in the 20-lap WISSOTA Super Stock feature. They were stacked four wide for second and Braden Brauer moced to second with Dylan Kromschroeder third. Jeff Brauer got to fourth and Jesse Redetzke cruised to fifth from the 14th spot.

Wiome checked out up front and left Braden Brauer and Kromschroeder in a race for second. They raced that way until lap 18 when a caution came out to set up a two lap run to the checkered flag.

Wiome went unchallenged to take the win. Kromschroeder slipped past Braden Brauer for second. Jeff Brauer finished in the fourth spot and Redetzke was fifth.

Darwyn Karau took the lead in the USRA Modified feature, but Jason Cummins and J.T. Wasmund shot past to end lap one. Joel Alberts also got  past Karau to third and Brad Waits moved to fourth.

Cummins opened up a big lead and stretched it out. Wasmund held second as Alberts and Waits were close behind. Cummins at one point had a close to five second lead over second place.

Cummins led the entire way to pick up the win. Alberts and Waits were able to get by Wasmund late in the race for second and third. Wasmund would finish in fourth with Josh Angst in the fifth spot.
