Wagner Returns For A Win, Brauer Clenches His First Win In the Senior Class

The Blake Trucking Slingshots were back on the track for the July 21, 2018 races at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN. A warm and windy day made for a dry and dusty track for these youngsters to maneuver on.

Up first was the Junior Slingshots with only the two cars of Koby Wagner in the 43 on pole and Curtis Parmenter in the 7C on the outside. With a few nerves yet from his roll over in his last slingshot race, Wagner was a little more cautious on the start of the 12 lap feature. However, it didn’t take him long to overcome those nerves and find himself out in front of Parmenter. Parmenter stayed within a few car lengths of Wagner for the first several laps, but eventually Wagner stretched out his lead and pulled away for the win, Parmenter finished in 2nd place.

The Senior slingshot class was led by the Kolt34 of Kolton Brauer with the 29 of Lili Reps on his outside. Second row inside was the 8T of Toby Kennedy with the 25 of Joe Chisholm on his outside. Third row was the 20 of Gage Motl. Reps and Brauer were neck and neck into turn 1 with Brauer coming out with the lead. The 25 of Chisholm fell into 2nd place and Kennedy into third. A couple spin outs in turn 2 rearranged the running order in the race, but the Kolt34 of Brauer maintained his lead out front. With Chisholm putting on heavy pressure for the lead, Brauer found himself driving off track on the backstretch. He managed to come back on the track on the high side of turn three where contact ensued between him and Chisholm who was coming in hard on the inside. As the 25 of Chisholm pulled out of turn four for the lead, the 20 of Motl was coming fast into turn three where he had to check up due to Brauer slowing down. Motl made contact and was unable to retain control, spun around and called with the caution. With the lap not completed, the lineup for the restart was put back to the last full lap prior of Brauer, Chisholm, Reps, Kennedy, and Motl. With one more caution before the checkered, Chisholm and Brauer battled for first place while Kennedy and Motl fought for that final podium spot of third place. Both managed to hold off their contender with the 25 of Chisholm in 2nd, the 8T of Kennedy in 3rd, the 20 of Motl in 4th, the 29 of Reps in 5th, and the Kolt 34 of Brauer taking him his first senior class win of his 2018 season.

Heat race winners included the 43 of Koby Wagner and the 8T of Toby Kennedy.
