Fans Witness Wild Feature Racing At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (July 28)

This week at Deer Creek Speedway featured “Double Down Night and Driver Recognition Night. Drivers could choose to pay a $50 entry fee and race for double the normal purse. Every position would pay the driver double if they chose to enter.

Retired drivers from the 1950’s thru the 1990’s were also invited with free admission to them to attend a night of racing. They were introduced in front of the crowd before the racing action started.

The show was presented by National Fleet Graphics of Dodge Center along with Tralo Companies of Owatonna. Exhaust Pros of Northfield offered a $100 bonus to each feature winner, while Randy & Sandy Norby made the USRA B-Mod feature pay $1000 to win with an extra $100 for second and third with a $100 hard charger award too.

Another large field of 125 cars signed in for the five class program. There was also a full moon which just might have been some of the reason for the hum-dinger of a program.

The Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks were first up for their 18-lap feature. Fred Prudoehl took the initial lead with Bobby Blowers and Kory Adams second and third. The top nine ran in a very tight pack while Blowers took the lead and Prudoehl would spin soon after to bring out the caution.

On the restart, Blake Adams dove low and Kory Adams went high to challenge Blowers. Blake Adams took the lead with Kory Adams second. Dustin Doughty got to fourth and then slipped past to third.

Up front Kory Adams drove to the outside of Blake Adams on lap eight, Kory Adams took the lead while Doughty chased Blake Adams. Keith Tourville started 20th and charged up to eighth at this point.

Kory Adams led the rest of the way for his second win in a row and a clean sweep. Doughty finished second with Blake Adams in third. Blowers finished fourth, Braden Brauer was fifth and Tourville’s run ended in sixth.

A huge field of 31-Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds raced through four heats and a B-feature to get their 24-car feature field. It was a wild 18-lap race that thrilled the fans in attendance.

Pole sitter Jason Haugerud led Steven Amundson on the start while Mitch Weiss raced Ryan Wetzstein for third and Nick Koehler was behind them. Haugerud had his hands full with Amundson as the yellow flag flew on lap six and this set up a wild restart.

The green came out and Koehler charged to third and Jason Vandekamp was now in the mix. Amundson then broke down and Koehler avoided him and got to second with Weiss third and Vandekamp fourth when the yellow returned for the slowing Amundson.

The race resumed and now Haugerud had Koehler to contend with. Koehler and Weiss chased Haugerud and were close on lap 11. On lap 14 Koehler threw a wicked slide job to take the lead in turn three. Haugerud went to the low side and returned the favor back to the lead in turn four.

Lap 15 was a carbon copy of the previous lap when Koehler threw a slider in turn three to take the lead. Haugerud again crossed over and regained the lead at the flagstand to lead by .006. The yellow came out to slow things down and tighten the field on lap 15.

The green came out and Koehler made one last effort on the final lap. Koehler threw yet another slider at Haugerud in turn three to take the lead. However this time Koehler’s machine didn’t stick in turn four and he spun. Haugerud dove low to miss and take the lead while the field tried to miss Koehler as the yellow waved.

The yellow came out before the field took the checkered flag to set up a quick dash to the finish. On the start Vandekamp stole the point from Haugerud and scored his second win of the season and the sweep. Weiss got to second with Dan Wheeler third. Haugerud ended up fourth and Alex Williamson was fifth.

Jared Boumeester redrew the pole position for the National Fleet Graphics USRA B-Mod feature. It was pretty much over from there. Cole Denner tried to stay with the quick Boumeester but it was to no avail.

Boumeester scored his first win at Deer Creek and became the ninth different winner in nine nights in this division. Denner finished a distant second while Ethan Braaksman raced from 11th to third in his first ever race here. Kadden Kath came from 10th to fourth and Brandon

Maitland was fifth. Sam Wieben picked up the $100 hard charger when he came from 19th to ninth.

Casey Underdahl led the Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Super Stock feature with Schatney Sanders second. Brandon Duellman and Mike Loomis had their own good race going for third.

Underdahl and Sanders raced for the lead with Sanders alongside on a couple of occasions. Loomis and Duellman kept their battle going while they reeled in the lead duo on lap 9 The top four ran close on lap 10 and then things got crazy.

Sanders attempted to take the lead in turn four but made contact with Underdahl who spun. Loomis made contact with the spinning Underdahl and the rest of the field scrambled to miss the melee. Sanders was relegated to the tail and Underdahl was done for the evening.

Loomis was challenged by Duellman and Jeff Brauer for the last nine laps. Loomis would grab his first ever Deer Creek win and a clean sweep. Duellman was second with Brauer third. Neil Eckhart and Dan Nissalks would round out the top five.

A stellar field of 32-NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds went through four heats and a B-feature to determine the 24-cars that would race the $2000 to win, 25-lap feature.

Brad Waits took off from the pole with Dustin Sorensen on the chase. Waits opened up a lead, but Sorensen reeled him back in on lap seven. Jake Timm moved to third and chased down the lead duo. Sorensen started to challenge but the yellow came out on lap nine.

Sorensen used the low groove to take the lead on lap 10, while Timm slid past Waits for second. Joe Horgdal sat in fourth but scuffed the wall in turn two. He then slowed and collected some cars in turn three and the yellow was out. This set up a very interesting restart.

Waits went back after Timm for second and then Rodney Sanders threw a nasty slide job in turn three to blow past both Waits and Timm for second. Timm returned the favor in turn four and was back to second. However Sanders drove back by in turn two and was again in second.

While all this was going on, Sorensen stretched out his lead to a full straightaway on lap 13. Sanders shaved a couple tenths off each lap while Sorensen closed in on the back of the field. Sorensen caught the pack and Sanders was right on the leader.

Sorensen entered the lapped traffic on lap 21 with Sanders close. They entered turn three and Sanders got into the wall and went up and over the wall and stayed on all four tires as the yellow came out. Sanders did not roll over and drove back on to the track through the track prep equipment entrance in turn four. His night was over though as the right front suspension was broke.

From there it was Sorensen who went on for the big payday. Timm would end up in second after a fierce battle with Waits who was third. Brandon Davis finished in fourth and Joey Jensen was fifth.
