Cummins Wins Seventh & Blowers Gets Sixth Win At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (August 12) - By: Todd Narveson:  It was a picture perfect night for racing at Deer Creek Speedway this week. Ninety-one cars checked in to battle it out on the speedway. This week’s event was presented by Compeer Financial and Ruehlow Farms.

When all was said and done, several drivers added to their win totals and one became an all-time division win leader.  It was also the Race of Champions qualifier night for the three WISSOTA sanctioned classes.

Two WISSOTA Super Stock drivers also took home $2000 in the Super Stock Cash Challenge presented by Brauer Roofing and Dura-Floor Coatings. The first drawing was for drivers that competed in three or less times in 2016 and three or more times in 2017 and that was won by Brian Fetting.

The second drawing was for drivers that raced more than three times in 2016 and at least three times in 2017 to be eligible. The drivers names were placed on a wheel that was spun and it landed on Tommy Richards who would claim the $2000 prize.

The National Fleet Graphics WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds had Nick Koehler jump to the lead from row one. Steven Amundson, Ryan Wetzstein and Ryan Goergen were close. This race was loaded with caution flags throughout the 18-lap event.

Koehler would check out after each stoppage and left the pack to battle it out. Robbie Franklin would get to third on lap 10 and then challenged Amundson while Goergen was in the mix. Amundson would get tangled up with Karlie Wagner for a caution on lap 12, but would maintain his position.

Franklin would get to second and get a shot at Koehler. However Koehler would survive a late race yellow to score his third win of the season. Franklin finished second and Dan Wheeler was third. Amundson finished in fourth and Neil Eckhart worked his way to fifth.

Bobby Blowers led at the green for the Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks. But Blake Adams would take the lead on lap two. They were four wide behind the leaders and Danny Richards got shuffled back a few positions. Troy Voth got to second and Kory Adams moved to third on lap three before the caution flag waved.

On the start, Kory Adams, Voth and Bobby Blowers were three wide for second. Mike Blowers was on the charge and slipped by all of them to second on lap six. The caution came out soon after and then the race was bogged down by three consecutive yellow flags.

Blake Adams continued to lead, but Mike Blowers made his presence known. Blowers challenged on lap nine and took the lead. Blowers would lead the rest of the way for his sixth win of the year. It also moved him to the all-time Street Stock win leader at the track with 35-wins. Blake Adams finished second with Kory Adams third. Braden Brauer drove to another top five and Voth ended up in fifth.

After the redraw for the Dirt Doctor Trucking USRA B-Mods, former track and national champion Brandon Hare was on the pole with Parker Hale flanked to his outside. Hare led lap one with Hale and Channing Warner in hot pursuit. A caution on lap three would slow the race down.

On the start, Dustin Kruse passed Warner for third and was close behind Hare and Hale. Warner then had his hands full when Kadden Kath and Jim Chisholm moved up to challenge. Kruse got by Hale for second and Chisholm was a rocket on the top side and was up to third.

Chisholm shot past Kruse for second and then another caution would keep the lead pack close together. Kruse would battle Hare for the lead on the restart and Kadden Kath was up to third. Kruse stole the lead on lap eight and the yellow flag returned on lap nine.

Hale returned to second on the start while Chisholm and Hare raced for third. Chisholm got to third and then Hale, Kruse and Chisholm went three wide for the lead on lap 12. Kruse was again up front one lap later by a scant .05-of a second.

A caution on lap 15 set up a three lap dash to the finish. Kruse led the rest of the way for his second win in a row and third of the season. Hale finished in second with Chisholm in third. Derek Clement made some late race moves to finish in fourth with Jerry Young in the top five.

Dan Nissalke stormed off the front row of the Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Super Stock main event. Nissalke opened up a big lead early on while Jeff Brauer was on the charge. Brauer was fourth on lap two and then passed Dexton Koch for third on lap three.

Brauer then closed on Neil Eckhart and Tommy Richards was up to fourth. Brauer took second on lap eight, but Nissalke was a straightaway ahead. A caution came out for a fire under the hood of Harland Morehart’s car and that eliminated Nissalke’s huge lead.

Brauer grabbed the lead on lap 12 and glided to his fifth win of the season. Tommy Richards moved to second and got close to Brauer but finished there at the checkered flag. Nissalke finished in third with Eckhart fourth and A.J. Hoff was fifth.

Josh Angst and Jason Cummins led the Napa Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds to the green flag for their 25-lap feature. Cummins took the lead while angst gave chase. Dustin Sorensen moved to third followed by Brad Waits.

Cummins pulled away from the pack while Angst held a solid second. Waits passed Sorensen for third on lap six. The leaders moved into lapped traffic and Angst was able to reel in Cummins on lap 16. Once the leaders had a clear track Cummins opened up the lead once again.

Cummins cruised to his seventh win of the year with Angst second. Waits would finish in the third spot while Sorensen was fourth. Joe Horgdal had a good run to round out the top five.
