Four Drivers Sweep Double Down At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (July 29) - By: Todd Narveson:  This week’s program at Deer Creek Speedway featured Double Down night. Drivers could pay a voluntary $50 entry fee and race for double the normal purse. Many contingency prizes were offered up by several businesses adding to the racers possible bounty.

This week’s event was presented by National Fleet Graphics along with Exhaust Pros of Northfield along with Randy and Sandy Norby. The largest car count of the season turned out with 130-machines in the pit area.

The 18-lap Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks were led to the green flag by Zach Elward and Danny Hanson. Second row starter Kpry Adams got to the lead while they were three wide behind him. Elward and Hanson went at it for second with five cars in a big pack racing for fourth.

Jason Newkirk was on the move to third when he got by Hanson. Elward was right on Adams for the lead and Danny Richards was on the extreme high line trying to pass cars. Newkirk then challenged Elward for second as Braden Brauer entered the top five on lap seven.

Brauer passed Newkirk and then Elward to second on lap nine. Mike Blowers moved up to the third spot with Elward, Newkirk and Richards battled for fourth. Richards got to fourth on lap 11 and Blake Adams entered the top five. A yellow on lap 12 would close the field back up.

Adams led, but Brauer challenged and Richards flew on the top side. Adams, Brauer and Richards were three wide on lap 14 with Brauer scored the leader on lap 15. Richards screamed to the lead on the next lap and took off.

Richards got the clean sweep and his second win of the season. Brauer had another fine run in second with Adams in third. Adams ended up in fourth with Blowers fifth at the checkered flag. Richards and Bobby Blowers would split the National Fleet Graphics $200 hard charger award.

A season high 29-National Fleet Graphics WISSOTA M<idwest Modifieds turned out this week. Some secret donors increased their pay even more and this feature would pay $1000 to the winner. Liz Toepper and Casey Trom led the 24-car field to the green flag.

Trom led the first three circuits until Robbie Franklin showed up to the party. Franklin swept to the lead on lap four and set sail on the top side of the track. Dan Wheeler and Eric Lamm had a good race going for third and Nick Koehler moved to fifth.

Wheeler got by Trom for second on lap seven and Lamm took third one lap later. A couple of cautions on lap nine keep things tight, but it did not affect Franklin in the slightest way.

Franklin drove on to his second win of the season and the big payday. Lamm passed Wheeler on lap 10 to finish second with Wheeler third. Koehler edged up one more spot for fourth and Jared Boumeester finished in fifth. Ryan Wetzstein and Tianna Mithun split the $200 hard charger award from National Fleet Graphics.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking USRA B-Mods also had additional money added to the top positions of their feature. This one paid $1300 to win and the hard charger award was bumped up to a cool $500. Dustin Kruse and Nick Wagner brought the field to the green flag.

Kruse, Wagner and Jim Chisholm cycled three wide on lap one with Chisholm on top at the end of lap one. There were a few yellows that kept the pack close to Chisholm, but it did not faze the 2016 track Rookie of the Year.

Chisholm flew on the top side and led the field to the checkered flag for his second win of the season. It was also a clean sweep for Chisholm after he won his heat race earlier in the evening. Kruse fought hard to finish second and Mike Mehling had his best run in third. Erik Kanz finished in fourth and Derek Clement came from 11th to fourth. Kenny Boge and Kadden Kath split the hard charger prize.

Kevin Hager led the first four lap of the Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Super Stock main. A.J. Hoff stole the lead on lap five and Hager was then challenged by Neil Eckhart and Jeff Brauer for second. A yellow on lap six slowed the race.

Hoff led on the start but Hager, Brauer and Eckhart were three wide for second. Brauer got to second and set after Hoff, but the car on the charge was Tommy Richards who was up to fourth and going strong on the top side.

Brauer took the lead on lap nine and Richards was now third. Richards drove past Hoff for second on lap 10 and then closed in on Brauer. Richards zipped by on lap 11 and pulled away. A few cautions did make things closer but it was Richard’s night.

Richards won his fourth of the season and a clean sweep to boot. Brauer was second and Schatney Sanders had a late race surge to third. Hoff ended up fourth and Ryan Schaufler was fifth. Sanders and Schaufler split the hard charger bonus.

A huge field of 37-NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds were narrowed down to a 25-car field for their $2000 win main event. Dustin Sorensen got the jump from row one. A couple of early yellows would slow the race, but not Sorensen.

Sorensen checked out and drove away to pick up his second win of the season and the biggest payday of hos young career. Jake Timm rode home in second while Cory Bruggeman was third. Josh Angst finished in fourth and Jason Cummins was fifth. Tony Schill was awarded the National Fleet Graphics hard charger money.
