Drivers Sweep Up Competition At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (July 22) - By: Todd Narveson:   This week at Deer Creek Speedway featured “Christmas In Julyâ€? The track was decorated up for Christmas, Santa Claus was on hand and sled races were held to determine the weekly bike giveaway. There was also a campsite Christmas decoration contest at the campground. Clements Subaru also held a toy drive for the Salvation Army’s Toy & Joy Shop.

Another big field of 110 cars signed in and five drivers would get out the brooms and score clean sweeps. The show was presented by Pine Island Lumber, Titan Pro, Blake Trucking and Osage Co-op. Mother Nature tried in earnest to spoil Christmas for everyone, but just created a delay in the program.

With the threat of thunderstorms in the area the National Fleet Graphics WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were up first for their 18-lap feature. Casey Trom and Steven Amundson led the 22-car pack to the green flag.

Amundson bolted to the lead with Trom and Robbie Franklin close. Franklin drove to second while Don Schaefer got to fourth. Trom, Garitt Wytaske and Schaefer battled it out for third on lap five. Amundson continued to lead when sprinkles started to fall. The shower got a little heavier and the caution flag came out for the slick track on lap 10.

The shower abated, but created a 50-minute delay in the show. The speedway was rolled back in and the race was resumed. Amundson again took off up front and Jared Boumeester was on the move. Boumeester cracked the top five and then passed Schaefer for fourth.

Boumeester slipped past Trom for third on lap 12 and Billy Steinberg also passed Trom to fourth on lap 14. Boumeester caught Franklin on lap 16 for second and set after Amundson up front.

Boumeester tried to get up alongside, but Amundson went on for his first ever Deer Creek win and a clean sweep. Boumeester was second and Franklin was third. Steinberg wound up fourth and Trom finished out the top five.

Nineteen Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks took the green flag for the 18-lap feature race. Troy Voth led lap one with Zach Elward and Jim Gullikson in tight. They would go three abreast for the lead on lap two and Gullikson would come out on top. A yellow on lap three would tighten up the pack for a restart.

Gullikson took off but Danny Richards bolted to third on the top side of the speedway and then got to second on lap five. Elward got back to third while Voth and Blake Adams raced for fourth. Mike Blowers entered the picture into the top five.

Blowers got by Adams and then challenged Voth. Blowers got past Voth and then Elward to third. However a tire went down on Blowers machine and he spun to bring out the yellow flag on lap nine. Gullikson was strong up front on the start while Richards tried to hang with the leader.

Kory Adams and Sam Fankhauser entered the top five and all of a sudden it was a great race for second to seventh. Gullikson took the win and a clean sweep for the night. Richards finished in second with Fankhauser up to third. Adams would end the race in fourth and Voth was fifth.

A big field of 34 Dirt Doctor Trucking USRA B-Mods was whittled down to a 24-field for their 18-lap feature. Ben Moundry and J.T. Wasmund brought the field to the green flag and Moudry took off from the start. Jon Van Minsel challenged Wasmund for second with Dustin Kruse in the mix also.

A five car crash in turn one on lap seven brought out the red flag. Jett Sorensen was caught up in the wreck and rolled over several times. Kylie Kath was black flagged for the incident and fortunately all the drivers were uninjured.

Moudry used the top groove to again pull away from the pack. Kruse darted to second with Wasmund third. Jerry Young was up to fourth on lap eight and Nick Wagner entered the top five. A caution then came out to bring the field back to Moudry’s rear bumper.

It did not matter because Moudry again pulled away on the restart. Wasmund and Kruse raced for second until Kruse broke away. Moudry led the rest of the way for the win and became the first repeat winner in the division. It was also a sweep for Moudry after he won his heat earlier in the night. Kruse was second with Wasmund third. Wagner finished fourth and row seven starter Dan Hovden finished in fifth.

Bill Clemens led the Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Super Stock main until lap three when Neil Eckhart took over. A.J. Hoff used the top groove to stay close with the lead duo. Jeff Brauer, Kevin Hager and Tommy Richards battled it out for the fourth position. A yellow on lap six for an incident with Hager and Luke Schultz slowed the race.

Eckhart continued out front, but Richards was cranked up on the cushion. Richards passed Brauer for third and then got Hoff for second on lap eight. Richards continued his drive to the front and blew by Eckhart on lap 11.

Richards cruised to his third win of the season and a sweep of the night. Eckhart was second with Hoff in third. Brauer ended up in fourth and Bill Clemens snuck back past Jay Oricchio on the last lap to finish fifth.

Lucas Schott and Jason Cummins would bring the 23-car Napa Auto Car Centers USRA Modifieds to the green for the 25-lap nightcap. Schott led lap one, but Cummins zoomed past on lap two.

Cummins pulled away to claim his fifth win of the season and it was also a clean sweep for him too. Schott finished a distant second while Keith Foss was third after a very good race for that spot. Tenth starter Brad Waits would finish in fourth and Adam Hensel was fifth.
