Timm, Walski & Boumeester Take Wins At The Creek

This week was Tasseldega Nights time at Deer Creek Speedway and that meant free admission to all fans in attendance. The gift to fans was provided by the Minnesota Corn Growers Association and with huge support from the area county corn and soybean growers along with many agriculture related businesses.

The night was all about educating people on the Corn Growers and what they do. Also to inform the crowd on the benefits of Ethanol use in their motor powered vehicles. There were several displays to view for that purpose and all sorts of other activities to take in.

People took advantage of the free admission when a huge throng packed the stands to watch the racing action. Another stellar field of 106-cars filled the pit area in the five divisions that race weekly.

The racing world had a heavy hearts this week with the loss of two people. Rex Garr who raced in the area in the 1960’s passed away on Monday. A day later Jessica Miller founder of Karsyn’s Krusaders and owner of the #45 Levi Nielsen modified that races at the speedway lost her life in a highway accident on Tuesday. Drivers lined the wall in turns one and two during the emotional opening ceremony tribute for those two individuals.

After the qualifying events were completed there was a short break in the action. At that time many of the drivers walked through the crowd with their helmets and raised $2,000 for the Miller family and Karsyn’s Krusaders.

Twenty-two National Fleet Graphics WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took the green flag for their 18-lap feature led by Ryan Wetzstein and Antonio Pintaro. Wetzstein led through a couple of early caution flags. On one of the restarts, Pintaro, Ryan Goergen and Garitt Wytaske went three abreast for second.

Goergen and Wytaske both got by before another yellow flew on lap four. Jared Boumeester was on the charge from eighth and entered the top five on lap five. Boumeester flew on the top groove and bolted past both Wytaske and Goergen to second on lap six.

Boumeester then reeled in Wetzstein with Wytaske on their heels. Boumeester drove to the lead on lap seven and Wytaske took second on the next lap. The yellow flag came back out on lap 10 and tightened things up once again.

Dan Wheeler got to the top five and got to second on lap 13. The race had two more caution and would set up a two lap dash to the checkered flag. Boumeester took the win in his first visit this season, Wheeler would finish second. Wytaske finished in third with Pintaro fourth and Don Schaefer was fifth.

The Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks were up next and former track champion Travis Krause would lead from the start. Troy Voth was second while Nick Schwebach and Jason Newkirk battled for third. Mike Blowers was on the fly from ninth and cracked the top five.

Krause led while Schwebach passed Newkirk and then got by Voth for second on lap seven. Blowers was now fourth and then took third on lap eight. A caution would slow the race on lap 12 and set up a good restart.

All of a sudden Krause was under attack when Schwebach and Blowers made it three wide for the lead. Schwebach was scored the leader on lap 13 and now Blowers was alongside as he tried to take the lead. Blowers was scored the leader when lap 14 was complete and the caution came out.

Blowers led the pack with the white flag set to fly when yet another caution was triggered. On the restart, Krause and Danny Hanson got locked together racing for fourth and went for a wild ride to the infield for another caution.

Blowers won his fifth of the year and is tied with Danny Hanson in all-time Street Stocks wins with 34. Schwebach finished in second and Blake Adams made a late race charge to third. Zach Elward finished in fourth and Fred Prudoehl rallied from an early yellow to finish in fifth.

Shaun Walksi took advantage of his number one redraw to lead the Dirt Doctor Trucking USRA B-Mod main event. Scott Demmer and Kadden Kath hung right with the leader in the beginning stages of the 18-lap race. This was a caution plagued race, but the racing was good when the green was out.

Kath challenged Walski for the lead on lap six and took the lead on lap eight. Parker Hale then raced Walski for second while Kath extended his lead a bit. Jim Chisholm charged from 17th and got to the top five on lap 10. The top three ran close on lap 11 and Walski used the top groove to reclaim the lead on lap 12.

Walski survived one last yellow on lap 14 to record his first win in almost two years in his second night out in his new Dirt Dueler car. Walski became the ninth different winner in nine nights of racing to start the year which is a new record. Kath finished in second with Hale in third. Jerry Young had a great run to finish in fourth with Chisholm fifth.

Defending track champion and Deer Creek’s all-time feature win leader Jeff Brauer was a no-show for his Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Supet Stock heat race. A faulty ignition module kept him from the race. Brauer started 14th in the main event a put on a clinic.

Luke Schultz led but spun to trigger a five car melee in turn two. Kevin Hager then took over but Neil Eckhart drove past him on lap two to take the point. Brauer was already up to third when Brian Fetting slowed to bring out the yellow.

The green came back out and Brauer wasted no time when he bolted past Hager and then Eckhart for the lead on lap 3. Hager then raced Bill Clemens for third and Tommy Richards entered the picture behind them. Richards passed Clemens and then Hager to third on lap six.

Brauer ran away from there for his third of the season and 55th career win at the speedway. Richards passed Eckhart for second on lap eight and finished second. Eckhart dropped out on lap 15 and that sent Hager to finish third. Jay Oricchio finished fourth and Ryan Schaufler was in the top five.

The Napa Auto Care Centers USRA Modified feature was a dandy with Josh Angst and Jake Timm in row one for the 25-lap race. Timm jumped to the lead, but Angst went low and slid in front of Timm to lead lap one. Timm slid Angst right back to regain the lead while Dustin Sorensen stormed from eighth to third.

Timm and Angst kept their intense battle for the lead going. Angst slid Timm again, but Timm did not allow him by and Sorensen closed in to make it a three car tussle. Angst stayed up alongside Timm with Sorensen right on them on lap nine. Behind them the racing was just as good for fourth. Jason Cummins who started 12th and Brandon Aggen were door-to-door for that position.

Timm was finally able to break away from Angst, but Angst was under a serious challenge for second. Sorensen got by on lap 18 and tried to reel in Timm. Timm raced to his first win of the season with Sorensen and Angst second and third. Cummins was able to pass Aggen for fourth and Aggen was fifth.
