Franklin Win Before Mother Nature Reigns At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (June 17) - By: Todd Narveson

This week’s program at Deer Creek Speedway featured the annual bus race and school mascot night. It was presented by the Essig Agency, BK Millright, Adams Graphix, Randy & Sandy Norby along with Wagner Trucking.

Ninety-five cars signed in to race and eight buses were on hand to represent their schools. The weather was once again threatening and the heat races were clicked off in rapid fashion. Then the buses ran a pair of four lap dash races before the first feature race of the night took to the track.

The National Fleet Graphics WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were led to the green by Casey Jane Trom and Tianna Mithun. Trom took the initial lead while Mitch Weiss came from fifth to second while Robbie Franklin and Ron Jablonske diced for third.

Trom and Weiss were in close quarters up front and Franklin would move in to make it a three car tussle for the lead. Franklin challenged for second with Trom still up front on lap seven when the caution n came out. Franklin used the low line to sneak past Weiss and then got by Trom to end lap eight when the caution flag flew.

The race fell apart for a bit with several caution flags and it took a bit to get some green flag laps in. Sprinkles of rain started to drip from the sky at this point. The race did get some more green flag laps in while Franklin continued to set the pace.

Lap 16 was completed and they started lap 17 when the rain just made the track too slick to continue. The race was scored complete on lap 16 and Franklin got his first win of the season. Weiss finished in second and Garitt Wytaske snuck past Trom for third. Don Schaefer would finish in the fifth position.

Race officials waited it out for a bit but the radar showed a long period of rain so the show was postponed at that point. The remaining four feature races will be ran next Saturday, June 24. The School Bus feature race will be made up on Saturday, July 1. For more details and updates on the postponed races watch www.deercreekspeedway.com
