Oldefendt delivered his first 2016 win, Motl and Tarras added to their victories

By Shanna Motl: Saturday, August 27, 2016 Blake Trucking Slingshot races at Deercreek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN were the final points races of the season for the slingshot drivers.  A cool and cloudy day made for a fast and heavy track and these young drivers showed off what they have learned over the 2016 season in their feature races.

The pee wee class had 6 drivers this week with the 411 of Gavin Oldefendt on pole and the k34 of Kolton Brauer on the outside.  Inside 2nd row was the 7C of Curtis Parmenter next to the 43 of Koby Wagner.  Inside 3rd row was the 8T of Toby Kennedy alongside the 247 of Anthany Ihlenfeld on the outside.  The k34 of Brauer got a jump on the 411 of Oldefendt on the start, but a collision in turn 2 and restart gave the 411 of Oldefendt another chance to restart the race.  This time he made sure he got out in front of the k34 and the rest of the pack.  The 43 of Wagner made his way around the k34 of Brauer in the first couple laps while the 8T of Kennedy in 4th was hot on the tail of Brauer.  The 7C of Parmenter and the 247 of Ihlenfeld battled for the 5th place position thoughout the race, but up front it was the 411 of Oldefendt who maintained his sizable lead and crossed the finish line in 1st place snagging his first ever pee wee feature win of the 2016 season.  The 43 of Wagner finished in 2nd, the k34 of Brauer in 3rd, the 8T of Kennedy in 4th, the 7C of Parmenter in 5th, and the 247 of Ihlenfeld in 6th for this final 2016 points race.

The junior feature race had 6 drivers this week with the 20 of Gage Motl on pole next to the 29 of Lily Reps on the outside.  Inside 2nd row was the 28jr of Devin Born next to the 88B of Brady Boland on the outside.  3rd row inside was the 109 of Aiden Leonard alongside the 12 of Aiden Howard on the outside.  The 20 of Motl was anticipating the start to this 12 lap feature got out to a commanding lead looking to clench his final victory of the 2016 season.  The 88 of Boland quickly followed into 2nd and the 28jr of Born into 3rd while the 29 of Reps fell back into 4th place.  The 12 of Howard and the 109 of Leonard battled for 5th place, and with only 2 laps to go, the 109 of Leonard slid into 4th place around the 29 of Reps.  At the checkered flag it was the 20 of Motl who came away with his 4th victory of the 2016 season followed by the 88B of Boland in 2nd and the 28jr of Born in 3rd.  The 109 of Leonard finished in 4th, the 29 of Reps in 5th, and the 12 of Howard in 6th.

The senior feature race had 7 cars for this final 18 lap feature race.  On the pole, it was the 44 of Karlie Wagner alongside the 50 of Gavin Tarras on the outside.  2nd row inside was the 77 of Hunter Kennedy next to the 4W of Tucker Williams.  3rd row inside was the 34jr of Braden Brauer next to the 18R of Evan Reyna on the outside.  4th row inside was the 25 of Joe Chisholm.  At the green flag, the 50 of Tarras and the 44 of Wagner battled for the first lap, but the 50 of Tarras was able to pull ahead in turn 3 and take a prominent lead.  A three-way battle ensued between the 4W of Williams, the 77 of Kennedy, and the 34jr of Brauer for 3rd. The 4W pulled ahead to take over 2nd place ahead of the 34jr, and soon the 77 of Kennedy found himself in a battle for 4th with the 25 of Chisholm who had moved himself up from the back of the pack.  The 34jr of Brauer tried for the inside on the 4W, but contact caused the 4W to go for a spin putting the 34jr to the back on the restart.  On the restart, the 25 of Chisholm moved himself up into 3rd place around the 77 of Kennedy and the 4W of Williams.  The 34jr of Brauer was also able to gain back a position into 5th place.  In the final lap, the 18R of Reyna put a move on the 77 of Kennedy in turn 4 to finish in 6th place ahead of Kennedy in 7th.  5th place belonged to the 34jr of Brauer behind the 4W of Williams who finished in 4th.  The 25 of Chisholm finished in 3rd behind the 44 of Wagner in 2nd.   The 50
