Braden Brauer pulls out another win, Kennedy and Mann take home their first checkered flags on the Button Buck Speedway for 2015

Braden Brauer pulls out another win, Kennedy and Mann take home their first checkered flags on the Button Buck Speedway for 2015

The August 8, 2015 KC Lawncare Slingshot races at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Mn were again back underway after a three week break for these young drivers. Excitement was brewing at the pit meeting, with each driver itching to get back on the Button Buck Speedway. After a few encouraging words from their head track official, Justin Queensland, “hit your brake, not your buddy, and a weekly cookie from the 28jr car of Devin Born, everyone was ready to get out there and race!

The pee wee class had four cars this week with the 8T of Toby Kennedy, the k34 of Kolton Brauer, the 43 of Koby Wagner, and the 411 of Gavin Oldefendt ready to roll. Immediately after the start it was a battle between the 8T of Kennedy and the k34 of Brauer for the top spot. The 43 of Wagner was in hot pursuit behind Kennedy and Brauer. The 411 of Oldefendt was back out on the track this week after a break from racing and was ready to put on a show, but this week the show belonged to the 8T of Kennedy who was too much for the k34 of Brauer. With what I’m sure was a big smile on his face under his helmet, Toby Kennedy clutched his first feature win at the Button Buck Speedway for the 2015 season. The k34 car of Brauer was inches behind Kennedy to take home 2nd this week. The 411 of Oldefendt finished in 3rd, while the 43 car of Wagner had to pull off during race due to a bent axle.

In the junior class this week, it was the 34jr car of Braden Brauer starting the race. Alongside Brauer was the 20 car of Gage Motl. The 12 car of Ayden Howard started 3rd, the 28jr of Devin Born in 4th, and the 7 car of Jordan Peterson starting 5th. With the promise of ice cream cones for all racers at the end of the race, it was the 34jr and the 20 of Motl who battled side by side for the first couple laps to get this race underway. The 34jr of Brauer was tight in the corners and was able to pull out ahead of Motl. The 28jr of Born ran a steady third with the 7 of Peterson only a couple car lengths behind him. The 12 car of Howard fell back into 5th place after spinning out in turn 2, but was able to keep going to avoid a caution.   Brauer stretched out to a comfortable lead over Motl this week and was able clutch the checkered flag with Motl coming in 2nd. The 28jr car of Born finished 3rd, the 7 of Peterson in 4th, and the 12 of Howard in 5th. Engine troubles prevented the 25 car of Joe Chisholm from racing the feature race.

The senior class had 6 cars ready to fly around the track with the 60 of Colby Mann leading the pack and the 4W of Tucker Williams on the outside. Inside 2nd row was the 53 of Tianna Mithun, with the 44 of Karlie Wagner on the outside. Starting in 5th was the 24 car of Jim Chisholm, and in 6th was the 18R of Evan Reyna. At the green flag, it was the 60 of Mann getting out to an early lead. The 53 of Mithun moved herself into 2nd while the 4W of Williams fell back to 3rd. The first caution sent Williams to the back of the pack and on the restart, it was a three way battle between Mithun, Wagner, and Chisholm with Mann still leading. A collision between Chisholm and Mithun who were running neck and neck into the corner for 2nd place sent Mithun to the back after being called for the caution. On the restart, it was Mann still in 1st, Chisholm now in 2nd, and Wagner holding onto 3rd. With 5 laps to go, Mithun was able to maneuver her way back to narrowly finish in 3rd place this week ahead of Wagner who took home 4th. The 24 of Jim Chisholm was able to hold onto 2nd place. The 18R of Reyna finished 5th after holding off the 4W of Williams who wrapped up 6th place this week.   This week the top spot belonged to the steady driving of Mann in the 60 car who led all 18 laps of the senior feature race to take home his first feature win at the Button Buck speedway for the 2015 season.

Heat race winners this week included the k34 of Kolton Brauer and the 8T of Toby Kennedy in the pee wee class, the 20 of Gage Motl and the 34jr of Braden Brauer in the junior class, and the 4W of Tucker Williams in the senior class
