The excitement of Independence Day racing was everywhere at the track, and this week these kids learned that racing is about more than winning, it’s about sportsmanship and friendships being made at the track. This was demonstrated best by the 44 car of Koby Wagner in the pee wee class, when after the 7P car of Jordan Peterson lost control and hit the victory lane wall during the junior feature race, Wagner gave him his feature win trophy as he was taken off the track. This kind of sportsmanship isn’t taught, it’s created, and the devotion to their racing friendships is just as important as winning to these kids.

The 10 lap pee wee feature race this week was a three way battle for the top spot between the k34 car of Kolton Brauer, who started on pole, the 44 of Koby Wagner in 2nd, and the 8T of Toby Kennedy who started in third. The 44 of Wagner pulled out to a quick lead, but at several times, the k34 of Brauer was right beside him trying to take over that lead position. The 8T of Kennedy wasn’t about to be left out and also was side by side Wagner at one point during the race. A green white checkered to finish this feature race ended with the 44 car of Koby Wagner seizing the win at the finish line, the 8T of Toby Kennedy grabbing 2nd and the k34 of Kolton Brauer wrapping up 3rd this week. Even with just 3 cars, these pee wee racers were definitely the most fascinating racers to watch!

In the junior feature, the starting order put the 25 car of Joe Chisholm on pole with the 77 car of Hunter Kennedy on the outside. Second row inside was the 34jr car of Braden Brauer, and the 20 car of Gage Motl on the outside. Third row inside was the 28jr of Devin Born alongside the 12 car of Ayden Howard. Fourth row inside was the 7P car of Jordan Peterson with the 79 car of Wyatt Hanson wrapping up the 8th place spot.   The 25 car of Chisholm got out to an early lead followed by the 77 of Kennedy and the 20 of Motl. The 34jr of Brauer and the 28jr of Born battled early for the 4th place spot with both kids showing a strong determination for that third place spot. A spinout by Motl in turn four brought out the first caution, and on the restart, the 7P of Jordan Peterson had a hard hit with the retaining wall of victory lane bringing the race to a halt. Thankfully Peterson was ok and we hope he will be back next week to race!  Three more cautions in the race allowed for positions changes in the backfield between Hanson, Born, Howard, and Motl, who moved his way back up in pack from 8th to 4th. Chisholm continued to be strong up front and as he took the checkered flag, he was followed by the 77 of Kennedy, the 34jr of Brauer, the 20 of Motl, the 79 of Hanson, the 12 of Howard, and the 28jr of Born.

The senior slingshot race was led by the 43 car of Karlie Wagner with the 24 car of Jim Chisholm on the outside. Behind Wagner was the 60 car of Colby Mann with the 53 car of Tianna Mithun in 4th. The 4 car of Tucker Williams wrapped up the 5th place starting position. Wagner got out to an early lead in this 18 lap feature race while the 60 of Mann and the 24 of Chisholm battled for 2nd. Chisholm conquered 2nd and soon put heavy pressure on Wagner for the lead. In the backfield, the 4 car of Kennedy, running in 5th place, patiently waited for his opening to move up in the pack behind Mithun and Mann who battled for 3rd. At the finished line it was Wagner who pulled out another win for her family followed by Chisholm in 2nd. Mann crossed the finish in 3rd place with the 4 car of Kennedy in 4th. The 53 car of Mithun wrapped up the 5th place spot for the feature.

Heat race winners this week included the k34 of Kolton Brauer in the pee wee class, the 25 of Joe Chisholm, the 77 of Hunter Kennedy, the 34jr of Braden Brauer, and the 20 car of Gage Motl in the junior class. The senior class heat race winner was the 43 car of Karlie Wagner.
