Deer Creek Speedway

Boland, Chisholm, and Mithun checkered flag winners

Boland, Chisholm, and Mithun checkered flag winners!

The KC Lawn Care Slingshot races at Deer Creek Speedway on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in Spring Valley, MN were fast and furious! Early morning showers made the track tacky and fast and these kids took advantage of the ideal conditions for racing! A few newcomers to the track this week made things a little more interesting for the weekly racers at Deer Creek Speedway, but that’s what these young and upcoming race car drivers are here for is a good challenge!

The 88B of Brady Boland from Winona was one of those newcomers to the track. Boland jumped out to an early lead in the pee wee feature race this week. The 43 car of Koby Wagner started on the outside and was hot on his rear bumper for the first few laps. The k34 car of Kolton Brauer started in 3rd and the 8T of Tucker Kennedy in the 4th place spot. Boland stretched out his lead early and led the pack of four pee wee slingshots for all 10 laps of the feature race. The competition ensued behind him between the 43 of Wagner and the k34 car of Brauer. Only one caution came out while Wagner and Brauer battled for second. With the caution being called on Wagner, Brauer now found himself in second place for the remainder of the race. With Wagner in fourth for the restart, the 8T of Kennedy found himself trying to hold onto a strong third place finish, but with only 2 laps left, Wagner was able to get around Kennedy on the turn and finish the race in third place with Kennedy finishing fourth. These young slingshot drivers proved that they won’t stay in this pee wee division for long!

The junior feature race had 9 cars this week and ran under the lights during the intermission of the big show making it even more exciting for these junior drivers. The 20 car of Gage Motl started on pole this week with the 25 car of Joe Chisholm starting in 2nd alongside him on the outside. The 77 car of Hunter Kennedy in 3rd, and the 12 of Ayden Howard on the outside second row in 4th. The 28jr of Devin Born started in 5th this week, with the 22L of Anna Lutz on the outside in 6th. The 79 of Wyatt Hanson was fourth row inside with the 34jr of Braden Brauer on the outside in 8th, and the 7 car of Jacob Peterson rounded out the 9th place spot to start the race. When the green flag flew, the 24 car of Joe Chisholm jumped out to a quick lead ahead of 20 car of Motl, and while Motl gave it all he had, he just didn’t have enough to catch Chisholm and finished the race in second place this week with Chisholm holding onto the checkered flag. The real battle in this 12 lap feature was behind Chisholm and Motl and started with the 34jr car of Brauer who moved himself up from 8th place to finish in 3rd this week. The 12 car of Ayden Howard, who found himself bringing up the back of the pack after being called for a caution in lap 2 also worked his way back up from 9th to 4th place to finish the race. The 79 of Wyatt Hanson stayed steady and finished in 5th place this week, while the 7P of Jacob Peterson came across the finish line in 6th after starting in 9th. The 28jr car of Devin Born and the 77 of Hunter Kennedy battled for the 7th and 8th place spots, but this week it was Kennedy would pulled across the finish in 7th with Born finishing in 8th. The 22L of Hanna Lutz who finished in 9th was a newcomer to the junior class this week and gave these boys a run for their money showing them that girls can drive racecars too!

It was a night for the girls once again in the senior slingshots where the 53 car of Tianna Mithun lead the pack out for an 18 lap feature race. The 44 car of Karly Wagner started in 2nd, Colby Mann in third, and the 24 car of Jim Chisholm starting in fourth this week. The 4W of Tucker Williams started third row inside, with the 18R of Evan Reyna alongside him in 6th.   This week it was Mithun who showed these boys some of her driving skills and was able to grab the checkered flag with ease. The 44 car of Wagner held tight as she tried to hold off the 24 car of Jim Chisholm who had moved himself up into third place now ahead of Mann. Mann stayed right behind Chisholm looking for any opening to get back around him, but just couldn’t find one and finished in 4th place. Wagner was able to prevail finishing in 2nd ahead of the 24 car of Chisholm finishing 3rd to round out your top three this week for the seniors. The 4W of Williams and the 18R car of Reyna just couldn’t catch the front of the pack this week with Williams finishing in 5th and Reyna in 6th.

Heat race winners this week included the 88B of Brady Boland winning both heats in the pee wee class. Two groups of heat races for the juniors included the winning cars of Joe Chisholm in the 24 car, the 28B of Devin Born winning his first ever heat race win in the junior class, and the 20 car of Gage Motl, who also won both heats in his junior heat race group. The 44 car of Karly Wagner was the heat race winner for the senior slingshots this week.
