DENNER, ANGST AND FRANKLIN FIRST TIME FEATURE WINNERS AT "THE CREEK"

Spring Valley MN - May 17, 2015:  (Photos courtesy of Gulbranson Photo)  A warm and sticky Saturday afternoon greeted the fans and drivers at the speedway this week. Mother Nature brewed up some storms which missed us most of the day and then just as all the heat races were completed a quick rain shower passed through. Although not a lot of rain it took two hours with equipment and the help of some of our great drivers to roll the track in and back to racing. With the freshly reworked surface a lightning fast track was on hand for the feature events.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were the first feature on the track. Ron Jablonske jumped out to the early lead out of turn 2 with Don Schaefer and Casey Trom racing for second. Trom took over the second spot and started to pressure for the lead. Then a string of cautions over the next three laps saw Jablonske leading on the lap six restart. Robby Franklin got a good run and took over the second spot and quickly pulled alongside of Jablonske and took over the lead. Josh Crary and Dustin Scott moved into the second and third spots on lap six and on lap seven Scott pulled alongside of Crary for the second spot. The two battled for the spot until lap eleven when Scott took over the second spot. Scott quickly reeled in Franklin up front but was unable to make a pass and followed Franklin to the finish. At the checkers it was Franklin with his first Feature win at the speedway followed by Scott, Crary, Schaefer and Jablonske. Heat races were won by Scott, Jason Born and Tammy Soma Clark.

Fred Prudoehl led the field to the green flag for the KIK Graphics WISSOTA Street Stock division with a four wide battle for third coming out of two. Troy Voth moved up to battle with Prudoehl on the second lap and then took over the lead as Prudoehl pushed up the hill in turn four allowing Mike Blowers, Nick Schwebach and Danny Richards racing by into the top four as Prudoehl dropped back to fifth. With six laps completed Blowers was looking low on Voth for the top spot while Schwebach with tight there in third. On lap eight Schwebach took to the high side and worked past Voth for the top spot, two laps later Voth, Blowers and Danny Richards were three wide for the second spot. Blowers took over the second spot with Richards following into third. On lap thirteen Blowers and Schwebach now battled for the top spot. Blowers took over the spot on lap fourteen. At the finish it was Blowers with the win, Schwebach, Richards, Voth and Prudoehl rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Richards and Blowers.

The Wagner Trucking USRA B-Modifieds were up next. Cole Denner used his front row starting spot to take the lead. Brandon Hare was in second with Erik Kanz in third. A restart with two completed saw Kanz take over the second spot behind Denner. Another restart on lap five saw Kanz put heavy pressure on Denner but was unable to complete the pass. Denner kept holding onto a slight advantage while Kylie Kath and Ben Moudry battled for the third spot.   With ten completed Kanz was all over Denner again but Denner held the car in the preferred groove on the track and held on to take his first win at the speedway. Kanz, Kath, Moudry and Hare rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Dustin Kruse, Denner, Kanz and Moudry. Miah Christenson and Alex Williamson topped the "B-Features"

The Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Super Stocks saw Harlan Morehart jump out to the early lead with Schatney Sanders and Dave Solum battling for third behind Josh Bartel. A restart after one lap saw Tommy Richards jump over the cushion and hammer down around the pack to take over the top spot. AJ Hoff moved up to race with Bartel as the two moved past Morehart for second and third. With six laps completed Richards was a rocket and pulled out to a straight away lead over Hoff in second. Nine completed and Jeff Brauer worked past Bartel to take over the third spot. Another caution with fourteen down saw the half lap lead that Richards had built up negated. Brauer took over the second spot on the restart and kept close to Richards but not enough to pressure him into a mistake. At the finish it was Richards with the win, Brauer, Hoff, Bartel and Morehart rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Richards and Morehart.

For the fan who likes to see fast modfieds tonight was the night to be at the speedway. WOW sums up the speed of these cars on a heavy track like this. Josh Angst powered to the outside to lead lap one as a caution flew over the speedway. On the restart Angst led with Jason Cummins to his outside. Cummins car shot hard up against the turn three wall ending his night and bringing out the second caution. On the restart Angst led with Les Duellman in second. Darwyn Karau and Joel Alberts raced for the third spot.   Karau held onto the spot with Steve Wetzstein moving up to race Alberts for the fourth spot. Wetzstein took over the spot and then on another restart took over the third spot while Karau now sat in second. Another quick caution saw Wetzstein take over the second spot on the restart with Karau dropping back to third. Lucas Schott and Les Duellman raced for fourth from lap thirteen to lap twenty as Angst continued to pull slowly away from the field. On lap twenty three Schott and Karau battled over the third spot. At the finish it was Josh Angst with his first feature win at the speedway ahead of Wetzstein, Karau, Schott and Duellman. Heat races were won by Wetzstein, Cummins and Keith Foss.

Racing action resumes next Saturday with the annual A&A Electric and Underground Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge featuring the USMTS modifieds, Iron Man, B-Modifieds and Stock Cars along with the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Street Stocks. Racing action is set to start at 6:00 with the slingshots racing at 3:00.
