Deer Creek Speedway

Scott, Mann, Anderson and Prochnow WIN ROC night

SPRING VALLEY, MN - August 18, 2013:  (Photo courtesy of Gulbranson Photo)  Tonight found the annual Race of Champions qualifier at the Deer Creek Speedway. The drivers who took home feature wins in all of the WISSOTA classes qualified for the race of champions event at the annual WISSOTA 100 in Huron North Dakota. 122 cars checked into the back gate for the race of champions event.

Tammy Soma jumped out to the lead in the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Jesse Hernandez and Dustin Scott battled for second. Hernandez held onto the second spot as Scott held off a hard charging Jason Born. Scott resumed a battle with Hernandez for second on lap four as they raced behind Soma up front. Soma continued to lead on lap five as Scott took control of the second spot. Scott moved low and under Soma to take over the lead as lap five was completed. Hernandez followed through to second and on the next lap Tony Schill and Jason Born moved past Soma to race for the third spot. Jared Boumeester moved past Soma for fifth on lap seven as Born and Schill continued to battle for third.   On lap nine Schill moved past under Hernandez as the two raced side by side over the stripe. With twelve down Schill finally took control of second. Boumeester, Born and Hernandez now were in a heated battle for third, with each driver having a shot at the position over the next three five laps. Boumeester final took over third on lap fifteen leaving Hernandez and Born to battle for fourth. At the finish it was Scott with another win, Schill, Boumeester, Hernandez and Born rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Boumeester and Scott.

Our anonymous donor put up an extra $200.00 for the SixTwo Graphics WISSOTA Street Stock feature event tonight and picked a great night with a great race by the streeters again. Danny Hanson and Shaun Mann battled for the lead early with Mann taking the spot on lap two. Mike Blowers and Hanson then battled for the second spot. A caution with five down bunched up the field again and on the restart Tommy Richards blasted into the lead with Mann, Hanson and Blowers racing three wide for second. Another caution flew on lap six and Blowers lost the handle collecting him and Hanson along with Bernie Adams. Adams was unable to continue with Hanson changing a flat tire. On the restart Richards led with Mann in second. Troy Voth took advantage of the cautions to move into third. Mann started to pressure Richards for the lead on lap eight. Jim Gustafson and Kory Adams battled for fourth on lap eleven while Richards held a slight edge over Mann for the lead. As they raced to the white flag a slower car held up Richards momentum on the top side slightly into one and two and Mann used it to his advantage and flew the car into the bottom of the three and four. They crossed the line side by side with Mann winning by .017 seconds at the line. Richards, Voth, Gustafson and Nick Schwebach rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Blowers and Schwebach.

The Wagner Trucking WISSOTA Super Stocks were on the track next with Dan Gullikson getting the early lead. Kelly Anderson sat in second with Jeff Brauer and Dan Bork racing for third. With two completed Gullikson slowed and pulled to the infield handing the lead to Anderson. Bork continued to hold onto the second spot with Brauer looking for a chance to get through in third. With thirteen down a caution flew and on the restart Anderson led with Brauer getting the upper hand on Bork and moving into second. Brauer pressured Anderson a couple times over the next two laps but Anderson had his machine hooked up on the top side and cruised home with the win. Brauer, Bork, Tommy Richards and Brian Fetting rounded out the top five.

The Left Lane Transport USRA B-Modifieds continue with outstanding car counts with 36 cars on hand to do battle on the night. Jacob Bleess, Aaron Benson and Parker Hale were three wide for the lead early with Hale leading lap one. Benson took control of second on lap two while Bleess and Trevor Fecht raced for the third spot. With three down Bleess and Fecht started to battle with Benson for the second spot. Bleess took over the second spot as a caution flew on lap five. On the restart Hale led with Bleess in second, Benson in third while a five car battle for fourth ensued. With nine down Bleess moved past Hale for the lead. Hale put heavy pressure on Bleess for the next eight laps until a caution flew on lap sixteen. The restart was a scramble with Bleess leading. Hale in second, Fecht, Benson and Kadden Kath were battling for third when they got together allowing Dan Wheeler and Cole Queensland to move into third and fourth with Benson regaining control and holding onto fifth. Mason Daughters and Jerry Young who both started outside the top fifteen battled to get into the top five on the last two circuits. As the checkers flew it was Bleess with the win, Hale, Wheeler, Queensland and Benson rounded out the top five. The "B" Features were won by Daughters and Dustin Sorensen with Kath, Scott Demmer, Queensland and Alex Williamson winning the heat races. Also a big shout out to Miah Christenson who during an initial start caused a caution that was not caught by a race official. After the officials stated on the raceceiver that there was no call, Christenson moved to the back of the field letting the officials know who was at fault. This is what sportsmanship is all about. After pulling from Sioux Falls SD to race, take full blame for an on track incident. A big thank you to Christenson for this move and we look forward to having you race with our great racers anytime.

Mike Prochnow jumped out front in the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Models at the drop of the green. Justin Sass and Adams Hensel battled briefly for second. Sass held on for second while Lance Matthees and Jordan Yaggy raced for fourth. On lap seven Yaggy took over the fourth spot and with eight down the caution flew for Yaggy with a flat tire. On the restart Prochnow jumped back out front again with Hensel taking over the second spot as Matthees and Nick Beyenhof pressured him for the spot. Hensel started to make ground up on Prochnow for the lead after lap fourteen but about lap twenty Hensel started to fade slightly allowing Prochnow to take home the win, Hensel was in second ahead of Sass, Matthees and Beyenhof as the finish. Heat races were won by Matthees and Dennis Hillson.

The NAPA AutoCare USRA Modifieds pulled onto the track for the final race of the night. Steve Wetzstein has been fast as of late and tonight he jumped out to the early lead. Jason Cummins sat in a close second and Josh Angst in third. Cummins started to pressure Wetzstein on lap four while Brandon Davis moved inot the fourth spot. With eight completed Davis started to gain on Angst in third. With ten down a caution flew over the speedway and on the restart Wetzstein continued to lead. Cummins was in second as Angst and Davis battled for third. Joel Alberts and Mike Sorensen raced for the fifth spot on lap twelve as Davis took over the third spot. With fifteen complete Davis and Cummins raced for second with Davis taking the spot and setting out after Wetzstein up front. With twenty down Davis pulled alongside of Wetzstein for the lead and took the spot on lap twenty four. Davis took home the win followed by Wetzstein, Cummins, Angst and Mike Sorensen at the finish. Heat races were won by Davis, Alberts and Wetzstein.
