Track Champions Crowned at Deer Creek Speedway

SPRING VALLEY, MN - August 26, 2012:  (Photos Courtsey of Buck Monson Photo) A late afternoon mist as the North Country Slingshots were completing their racing action slicked up the tracks and delayed the start of the racing action on the Deer Creek Speedway. When the track finally got rolled in again the racing was fast and furious on Track Championship night. With an anonymous donor putting up extra money for the USRA Modifieds making them $1,000 to win and Randy and Patti Eastvold putting an extra $100 to each third place finisher in all six classes.
First feature of the night was the Hinz Trucking USRA B-Modifieds with Kylie Kath jumping out to the early lead. Jacob Bleess sat in second early on with Scott Demmer and Shaun Walski in the top four. With five complete it looked like Kath was going to run away from the field and hide as he pulled away from Bleess. With eight complete Demmer got under Bleess from second as the first caution flew over the field. On the restart Demmer and Kath were side by side for the lead with Parker Hale taking over the fourth spot. Walski sat in third as Alex Williamson moved under Bleess for the fifth spot. With eleven laps down Kath and Demmer was still racing for the lead with Kath holding the slight edge. They came upon slower traffic and Demmer got the preferred line and took the lead only to have the pass negated by another caution. On the restart Kath held the slight lead as he and Demmer resumed their side by side race for the lead. With thirteen down Bleess moved past Hale for fifth again while Walski and Williamson were racing for third. Williamson got third on the next lap. Up front Kath held the lead until the white flew then Demmer got a good run out of two to take the advantage into three. Demmer took home the win ahead of Kath, Williamson, Walski and Bleess. Bleess was declared the 2012 Hinz Trucking USRA B-Modified track champion. Kath, Demmer and Hale won heat races earlier in the night.
In the Cap n Cork WISSOTA Street Stocks the front two rows raced side by side for the first lap until Bernie Adams took control of the race. Coming out of two with one down Kory Adams passed his dad for the lead down the back stretch. Troy Voth followed through into second on lap two while Fred Prudoehl and Mike Blowers rounded out the top five early on. With four down Bernie Adams started to pressure Voth for the second spot again. Shaun Mann and Blowers were locked in a great race for fifth on Prudoehls rear bumper.   Mann took over fifth on lap seven. Voth held of Bernie Adams and by lap nine was closing up rapidly on Kory Adams up front. With thirteen down Voth and Kory were side by side for the lead. Voth took over the top spot and held on for the win ahead of Kory, Bernie, Mann and Blowers. Blowers was declared the 2012 Cap n Cork WISSOTA Street Stock Champion. Voth and Kory Adams won the heat races.

Cody Gardner was a rocket ship early on in the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature even with Mike Mehling in second early on. Don Schaefer moved up to race Mehling for second on lap two and soon Jeff Born moved up to race Mehling for third. With three completed Cory Crapser was into the top four as a caution flew negating a huge lead for Gardner. On the restart Crapser powered under Born and Schaefer to take over the second spot. With six completed jarred Boumeester moved inside the top five taking over the fourth spot. With ten down another caution flew and on the restart Gardner led with Crapser right there in second and Boumeester in third. Two laps later they were side by side up front with Boumeester watching the action in third. Crapser took over the lead on the next lap and ran it out with a close race with Gardner for the win. Crapser won with Gardner, Boumeester, Bill Stettner and Drew Lawson rounded out the top five. Jeff Born and Crapser won the heat races while Crapser was crowned the 2012 track champion.

The Kelly Anderson and Jeff Brauer show continued on the final night of the Wagner Trucking WISSOTA Super Stock feature event. Ryan Siegle looked strong up front leading from the drop of the green. Gary Wiersgalla sat in second as Brian Fetting and Kevin Hager raced for third. Fetting took third then Brauer raced him for the third spot. With five down Brauer took over third then moved up to race Wiersgalla for the second spot. Brauer took the spot while Kelly Anderson moved under Fetting for fourth. Seven down and the top six cars were all side by side for position as the race heated up. Two laps later Brauer and Siegle were side by side for the lead. As Brauer worked low Siegle moved down slightly but wasn't able to make the car work as well down low but behind them Anderson was flying up top. With elven down Brauer took the top spot and Anderson rolled around Siegle for the second spot. On lap sixteen Brauer ran low and Anderson up top as they were crossed the line. Anderson took over the top spot on lap seventeen while Mike Keller moved into the fourth position. As the checkers flew Anderson took home the win and the track title in the Wagner Trucking WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Brauer, Siegle, Keller and Wiersgalla rounded out the top five. Anderson and Keller won heat races.

Doug Herrick led the opening lap of the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Model feature event with Kelly Anderson right there in second. Lance Matthees worked on Anderson on lap two but on lap three Anderson took off and passed Doug for the lead. Doug took the spot back on lap four and on lap five Matthees split the two to take over the lead. Doug dropped back to third as Anderson took second. On the next lap brother Nick Herrick overtook Doug for the third spot.   Up front Anderson was scored leader on lap eight but Matthees retook the spot for lap nine. Anderson took the lead again on lap eleven with Matthees retaking it the next lap. Mike Prochnow took over the third spot on lap twelve as the leaders battle raged on. Matthees finally took control on lap thirteen with Prochnow moving into second on lap fourteen. Jordan Yaggy followed Prochnow into the third spot on lap fifteen. Matthees continued to dominate up front taking home the win. Prochnow, Yaggy, Anderson and Nick Herrick rounded out the top five. Prochnow was claimed the track champion for 2012. Yaggy and Matthees won the heat races earlier.

Kevin Stoa and Brandon Davis battle for the lead on lap one of the NAPA AutoCare USRA Modified division. Stoa took the lead on the completion of lap one while Kelly Shryock, Mike Sorensen and Steve Wetzstein raced for the third spot. Wetzstein held onto the spot as a caution flew on lap three. On the restart it was Stoa leading and Davis in second. Wetzstein was in third. Rodney Sanders moved into the top five on lap six. A caution slowed the field on lap eight and on the restart Stoa led with Shryock in second as another caution flew on lap nine. On the restart Stoa led with Brandon Davis right there in second. Davis moved under Stoa on lap ten to take over the lead. Right behind him crazy action for the positions were taking place with hard charges and slide jobs. Sanders moved into second behind Davis on a lap twelve restart. Stoa fought back and sat in second until lap twenty one when he and Sanders were again side by side for the second spot. At the finish it was Davis with the win and the track championship title. Sanders, Stoa, Sorensen, and Lucas Schott rounded out the top five. Joe Horgdal won the "B Feature" while Davis, Shryock, Schott and Sanders won heat race action

Earlier in the afternoon Karlie Wagner took home the win for the PeeWee Slingshot division leading them the distance. In the Junior Division JT Wasmund took home the win ahead of Joe Chisholm and Keagen Einck. In the Senior Division Derek Clement fought off battles from Jackson Hale to take home the win on a rain slicked and shortened track. The Truck Country Slingshots did a whale of a job racing in adverse conditions with a light mist on the track during racing action. The Senior race was called four laps short at a caution as the track was not able to regain its racing groove at that time. Karlie Wagner won the Pee_Wee division with JT Wasmund taking home the Juniors and Derek Clement in the seniors.
