Matthees and Schott Back on Top at Deer Creek Speedway

SPRING VALLEY, MN - August 18, 2012:  (Photo courtsey of Gulbranson Photo) With 110 cars checked into the back gate on Hartland Fuels and the Minnesota Port Producers Night at the speedway the fans rolled into the stands and the racing action was set to begin.   The first race of the night was the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds with Dustin Scott taking off into the early lead.   Jason Born sat in the second spot with Bill Stettner and Cody Gardner racing for third early on. With two complete Cory Crapser moved into the top five and raced with Born and Stettner for eth seconds pot. Crapser dropped back to fourth with Jared Boumeester challenging him from the fifth spot. Crapser got a great run on lap five and moved past everyone into second as a caution flew over the field. On the restart Crapser and Stettner battled for second. Crapser held onto the second spot while further back Boumeester now raced with Stettner for the third spot. The caution flew over the speedway on lap nine. On the restart Crapser took off into the lead as Scott was sent to the back for the caution. Boumeester sat in second and started to work on Crapser for the top spot. Another restart on lap twelve saw Crapser leading while Jason Born cracked the top five again. On lap fifteen Scott worked under Born to take over the fifth spot again. Tony Condit moved past Stettner for the third spot while Boumeester continued to hound Crapser up front.   As the checkers flew it was Crapser with the win. Boumeester, Condit, Scott and Born rounded out the top five.   Crapser, Born and Gardner won the heat races.
The Cap n Cork Wine & Spirits WISSOTA Street Stocks were on the track next for their feature event with Danny Richards moving into the top spot early with Michael Conrad in second and Mike Blowers in the top three. With three down Fred Prudoehl moved into the third spot while Shaun Mann worked on Blowers for the fourth spot. Five down a caution flew over the speedway with Richards leading on the restart. Prudoehl took over the second spot as Blowers worked low on Mann for the third spot. Richards took home the win with Prudoehl keeping him honest in second. Blowers, Troy Voth and Mann rounded out the top five. Richards and Blowers won the heat race action.
Erik Kanz jumped out front in the Hinz Trucking USRA B-Modifieds with Josh Smith in second. Jerry Young ran in third early on. Jacob Bleess moved around Young for the third spot on lap two. With three complete Bleess started to pressure Smith for the second spot as a caution flew over the field. On the restart Bleess pressured Kanz from the drop of the green and took the lead on lap four. Kylie Kath followed Bleess into the second spot and on lap seven pulled alongside to challenge for the lead. Kath led lap eight as Shaun Walski moved into the top five. On the next lap Brady Keefe moved past Walski for the fifth spot while up front Bleess kept close to Kath up front. With twelve down Keefe worked into fourth with Walski moving into fifth right behind him. Bleess pulled alongside of Kath up front as the white flag flew over the speedway. Bleess made the bottom stick and took home the win ahead of Kath, Kanz, Keefe and Walski. Young and Bleess took home the heat race wins.
Tommy Richards led on the drop of the green for the Wagner Trucking WISSOTA Super Stock feature event with Josh Bartel in second. Schatney Sanders sat in third with Jeff Brauer and Kevin Hager racing for fourth. With two down Bartel took over the top spot and Sanders moving up into second. A caution with four down saw Bartel leading and Richards moving up into second. Brauer and Sanders raced for third while Kelly Anderson and Hager raced for fifth. Brauer moved past Richards for second on lap eight and on lap nine overtook Bartel for the lead. Anderson took over the fourth spot on lap twelve as another caution flew over the field. On the restart Brauer led with Sanders moving into second. Anderson and Richards raced for third. Jon Duffy overtook Richards for fourth on lap sixteen while up front Brauer continued to hold onto the lead. As the checkers flew in was Brauer, Sanders, Anderson, Duffy and Richards in the top five. Sanders and Anderson won the heat races.
Lance Matthees jumped out front in the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Model feature and that was it for eh competition as he checked out from the field. Nick Beyenhof held off and early challenge from Neil Eckhart for the second spot while Eckhart had to hold off track point leader Mike Prochnow. Prochnow pulled alongside of Eckhart multiple times in the middle of the race but was unable to overtake him for the third spot. Joe Ludemann held the fifth spot to the checker flag. Prochnow and Jake Redetzke won the heat races earlier in the night.
In the NAPA AutoCare USRA modfieds Brandon Aggen took the early lead with Lucas Schott and Jay Ihrke racing for second ahead of Mike Sorensen. Schott took over second on lap two with Ihrke regaining the spot on lap three. Sorensen started to challenge Schott for third on lap three while Joel Alberts and Brandon Davis raced for fifth. A restart on lap four saw Aggen leading with Sorensen and Schott racing for second. Schott took the second spot while Mark Noble raced Alberts for fifth. With fourteen down Schott started to close up on Aggen up front and Sorensen close behind in third. On lap sixteen they closed up on slower cars and while working slower traffic Sorensen moved low to work around a car leaving Ihrke enough room to fly by into third. With twenty two laps completed Schott got the lower line working and pulled alongside of Aggen for the lead. Schott took the lead on lap twenty two and held on for his first win of the season at the speedway. Aggen stayed in second ahead of Ihrke, Sorensen and Alberts.
Racing action resumes next weekend with the Point Champions being crowned in all six classes at the speedway. Racing action is set to start at 6:00.
