The Test Scores Are In, Some Surprising Results
SPRING VALLEY, MN – April 4, 2012 – With the season opener only days away 130 teams pulled into the pit area late Wednesday afternoon with hopes that all the long hours and late nights in the off season would pay off.
The #19 USRA Modified driven by Mike Sorensen sat on top of the leader board early in the night only to see the #24 WISSOTA Late Model driven by Justin Sass nock him from the top spot. A few sessions later Neil Eckhart piloted his #7E WISSOTA Late Model to the top with a 16.068 second lap posting his fastest lap of the night.
As the night went on drivers continued to roll through the back gate and the leader board continued to change. Justin Sass, in the #24 WISSOTA claimed the top spot for quite some time only to have the #88 of Roger Torgerson take it away and he refused to give it up as he continued to better his time and ended with the fastest lap of the night at 15.861 seconds.
Kelly Shryock, driver of the #3 USRA Modified from Fertile, IA hit the track late in the evening and posted a 16.402 second lap which was the fastest USRA Modified lap until Bob Timm and Kurt Krauskopf took turns grabbing the top spot over the next few sessions, however, someone else had something to prove. The #68 Skyrocket Chassis driven by JJ Wise continued to get faster and faster as the night went on and found himself at the top of the USRA Modified chart and second fastest overall with a 15.938 second lap.
Other notables were Kylie Kath who held the fastest recorded time in the USRA B-Mod division, Michael Hofer in the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Troy Voth in his WISSOTA Street Stock and defending track champion in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Jered Boumeester who were all at the top of their divisions.
The teams will now head back to the shop with what they learned and will try to make their final adjustments hoping it will give them the best opportunity to sit in victory lane this weekend at the season opener.
